Having been through this sort of thing during my "corporate America" days, let me warn you to be on the lookout for "trips to Phoenix" by U employees. If they don't happen then that will tell you something about how the merger is going to go down. If there are no mutual trips to PHX by U employees, it will not be good for the U side of the house.
I had already left by then, but when Chevron and Texaco "merged", the combined company was called ChevronTexaco. When I said this word to one of my friends still working there, her response was "Jim, you're mispronouncing the name of the new company. The Texaco is silent." 3 years down the road, they have dropped the Texaco from the name, and almost all the people I knew from the Texaco side have been forced out of their jobs one way or another.
