Announcement from USairways on 4/20/12 . That's all I can say

Isn't it amazing when you reflect upon the last 10 years of US Airways' history that include the events of 9/11, 2 bankruptcies, 2008 fuel spikes, predictions of US Airways' ultimate demise, and consultant adfter consultant claim that the airline industry would shrink down to only three legacy airlines (Delta, United, America), that one of those three would be US Airways. Very impressive.

Yes....and thank the nearest USAirways pilot East division to making that possible by giving up their first born to make the deal happen.

I was actually thinking that it is simply amazing that AWA has proven to be the best business model of the last two decades, and has now saved countless jobs by buying two major airlines that were collectively 10 times their own size.

We should all demand to be stapled below the desert scrorpions, while shouting humble praise and thanks.

Well, it's about time you guys realized that!

(MoneyWatch) US Airways (LCC) has filed an 8K with the SEC to begin the process of a takeover of American Airlines, which is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

According to the SEC, Form 8-K is the 'current report' companies file with the SEC to announce major events that must be disclosed to shareholders....

IHMO, once all the dust settles --- which will take a bit of time --- this will be a good thing.

And will the airport agents get Sabre back? 😀

But can Horton offer them the same or better that what Parker has? Either way, it seems that the AA folks are fed up with their management, and have little or no faith in them. From what I have been reading here, it looks like many are ready for a change. I believe that if both companies get together, they wil be able to generate much more revenue than they can alone. Perhaps, this is where Parker intends to cover his promises.
Earlier this week, AA announced that it increased its PRASM (unit revenue) by more than 10% systemwide in the first quarter, its largest unit revenue percentage gain in quite a few quarters. AMR's total revenue was up by $500 million over the first quarter of last year. It will be interesting to see what Parker and US have been able to do with revenue in the first quarter. Of course, it's easy for Parker and US supporters to claim that Parker would have increased AA's unit revenue by more than the 10% that AA's management was able to achieve.

Those are good numbers, and I'm not going to say the Parker could have made them better with AA as it is. I will say that with the combination of US they may have been a bit higher.

What we're all forgetting here is that AA's period of exclusivity runs at least through the end of September. Even Doug said in his letter that the two have NOT agreed to merge at this time.

Any possible merger announcement is AT LEAST 5 months away...and alot can happen between now and then.

They can't even finish contracts relating to the merger 7 years ago. What makes anyone think it's going to be magical this time?

To me the reasons for this "joint" announcement have yet to become apparent-me thinks everything may not be exactly as it seems.

ART you do know the Pilot issue has virtually nothing to do with management.

"Of course" it doesn't...nor does the "Flight Attendant issue" I'm sure. Sigh! Nothing could ever be the least bit assignable, in any small part, no matter what, to management...nothing at all...ever 😉
One must ask again: Do they issue those knee pads?...or must you purchase them yourself?

It sure hasn't taken Doug long to come to an agreement with three AA labor groups. If US pilots wanted a new CBA (which legally will have to contain the NIC), then they would have had one long ago. The US FA's aren't much better since they waited for six years to reach a TA and then rejected the offer negotiated for them by their own leadership. Every other group on the property has post-merger contracts and now the AA labor groups do too, even before a merger is announced. Time to look in the mirror as to why these two groups still don't have a post-merger, post-bankruptcy contract.

Sure it hasn't taken Doug long to get an agreement with the three AAA labor groups.......because he is going to make a shipload of money if this deal goes through! He liked having the east on a lower pay scale because......it saved him a shipload of money! I actually think this deal will be good for most employees but having said that the deal is still a long way from happening. At this point I see no reason to get excited because the whole deal could fall apart. Lets just hope that our "management" continues to run the company instead of chasing the deal and letting the airline fall apart like they did during past deals.
