Last night in CLT there were 31 airplanes that spent the night.

Management did not call overtime for utility, so 19 people were on shift to clean the planes and service the lavatory and water systems.

This included two -767s and numerous 757s and A321s.

Management told them to only security check and thru-flight the planes.

Once again US Airways Management FAILED the passenger at the begining of the day by not having a RON cleaning done on the airplanes.

And there were NO sick calls.

And they wonder why people don't want to fly US.

19 workers to clean/ service 31 aircraft is planty of people; with time to spare for all.
u do not beleive me ,ck the other airlines manpower
usually takes 3 hrs 1 person to ron an a321 (if they work and they konw what they are doing )

You got no idea.

It takes three people all night long to do a security check and RON cleaning on a 767.

It takes two per 757 and/or A321 all night do to a security check and RON cleaning and on each night of the week a particular area of the plane is given extra attention since there is no longer a SCO program.

It takes one per 737, A319 or A320.

Go check US' own paperwork.

A security check is figured one minute per seat so if you have 193 seats on a 757, that is three hours alone just for a security check if one person was doing it.

321 has 169 seats, one minute per seat is almost three hours alone to do a security check, using one person.

That still leaves, all the seatback pockets, seatbelts, overheads, tray tables, pillows blankets, lavatories, galleys, cockpit, cargo bins, exterior stains and the floor to be done. Not counting lavs and water either.

Please come out to third shift and show how you can do all that in three hours and do it properly.

Well, I work for another airline and the contractor (we lost RONs in the concessions) is supposed to have 14 people to do 11 planes (all narrow bodies). So to have 19 people do 31 planes (some of them wide bodies) is just not going to happen. You must be in management.

No, That is NOT doing a true Security Check. It is called pencil whipping the check.

The same staffing for mechanics also. We started a fine morning two days in a row. All maintenance stations did a wonderful job. Low etr's in the morning, low MEL count in the morning and great overall performance. They got praises from Tom M. No mechanic or stock clerk OT called either.
Only one mtc cancellation yesterday, none so far today.
Thank you everyone for your hard work.

The same staffing for mechanics also.

There are over 50 mechanics scheduled on third shift at CLT Line.

Yes, but that is for a complement of 20 airplanes including large size A & B checks.

The number reaches as high as 67 without overtime on a given night, and the 757 B-check is usually done nightly by the line hangar.

And your post implied 19 mechanics for 31 planes.

60 seconds per seat for the security check? That's what we used to budget for an upholstery exchange when I did workload scheduling. I'd be surprised if the time required security check amounted to more than 60 seconds per seat unit (i.e. pair or triplet).

Trust me it does, I would post what needs to be checked, but that is not a good idea.

If you do the inspection correctly, it will take a minute. And that's moving quickly.

No wonder the company wants to outsource. 2 stinking hours to security check an A-319??? You guys priced YOURSELVES off the market.

Apparently you have no idea what is involved.

The company is the one who said it takes one minuter per seat, if you put one person on an airplane as US does it will take 2 hours for a 120 seat airplane.

You put two people it takes 1 hour.

I just love it when people who have no idea makes posts like A320 Driver.

The company sets the manpower, not the union. It takes the same time if you use utility, ramp, customer service or a vendor.

Just like on the International Bank in the morning in Charlotte, there is a crew of 10 people do do all the flights.

Simple math, more people less time. Educate yourself.
