ME - and I don't even work for US Air. I am a 1k on United, and cannot believe how much everyone here whines about having very good jobs.

That is what I have been saying on these boards for YEARS. So much whining, it is unbelievable. Although I don't wish anyone to lose their jobs, it seems pretty enevitable at this point. The sad thing is, if it happens these people don't even realize they contributed to it themselves. And, when they go out and can't fiind a job comparable to U in pay, benefits, etc, well, then they will really have reason to whine. You don't realize what you have until it is gone.

That's why they don't quit--they aren't marketable.

Maybe I heard wrong last night on TV but I understood 60 from CLT had volunteered. I know when I talked to the CP desk today there are several from there going up to help on Friday.

I also know that a lot of customers have volunteered to go up and do what ever they can.

Unless trust and faith in management is fixed no number of volunteers will make a difference. Chasing their tail, putting out fires and pointing fingers is all they accomplish, that and getting rich quick.

Ah come on now. How about a little faith here.

We have always wanted to met each other so come on over on Friday and I'll buy you a cup of Joe.

I have a wife just out of the hospital and that my friend is one million fold more important than U and it's sorry state.

I see they again made national news asking for free help.

It was stated as "A desperate airline taking drastic steps".

Then Chimes face appeared. They should have used ole Orange Hair sitting in a Florescent Yellow Hummer, that would have been better PR.

But I must say, wish my life permitted me the opportunity to waste my time this weekend in Philly so I could get screamed at by passengers.

You are correct and I hope all is well with her. Maybe we will finally break bread together one day.

Don't you all understand why this happened? Everyone can sit here and debate the goodwill aspects of employees who are willing to volunteer their time or shoot down the idea altogether. The sad fact is the system at US Airways as it stands today is fundamentally broken. The dominoes tumbled simply because too much is being asked of the skeleton crew workforce. More worker bees are needed, not machines! If you build a bad foundation for a building it's going to crack at some point. There are a lot of customers on here ripping into the employees; a natural reaction given the limited understanding of the facts regarding US Airways' sitauation. No doubt about it what happened has been horrible, but are you really surprised? Quite frankly, I am surprised this meltdown didn't happen sooner. I can't speak for all the employees but I know so many employee stories that break my heart: the personal bankruptcies, the divorces, the health problems, the stress of living paycheck to paycheck, employees selling their dream homes, not being able to pay for their kid's college tuition, it goes on. But, you don't hear too much about these stories. To top it all off, employees who live in the big hubs or "focus cities" are bombarded with the horror stories, negative business news from the media. So, given all this what do people expect? Airline workers are human, aren't they?

You are right. This business and operational model is broken. Why Crellin, Glass, Lakefield and all cant see that is simply beyond belief. When you have to beg for volunteers to come help at your premier hub, because the current staffing is not sufficient, something is terribly wrong there. But it's that way at most stations. One night only two agents showed up here for night shift. One worked the counter, one worked the gate and the supv. ran back and forth between the two between flights. Of course no manager, because he was called to work in PHL to help there. Amazin.......

EITS, with all due respect, I know plenty of people who have filed for personal bankruptcy because of law firm failures and other partnership failures. Through all of their terrible times, they didn't screw over their customers like US did last week. The problem with US is that there a lot of people from top to bottom who don't want to take responsibility for their actions. There are a lot of very very good people at US, too--people who continue to work hard to save the company--I feel sorry for them because a few people were able to ruin Christmas for so many people and seal the fate of US. I hope I am wrong, but I don't know how they will ever get out of this downward spiral. And, if the recent posts on this board are any indication of what can be expected this weekend, survival until Jan 14th would seem like a crap shoot.
