IMO, it's disingenuous at best for a company to sell a base rate increase as a "raise" when they know it will be more than offset- or negated- being increases in other employee-borne costs.
For a union to try and peddle a T/A doing the same with the mantra that it "puts a little cash in the members' pockets" is just as bad. It's intellectually lazy, but it *is* an easier sell than either telling the whole story, or fighting for a better overall compensation package.
