So...what it all boils down to is the the Nic will be used to integrate the LCC and AMR pilots in the current merger if it makes it to completion.

Since far more seriously interesting topics have surfaced...and "you'se"..umm..."spartans" might lately feel a bit left out of the discussion: Would it help any, or at least make you feel better, if I just out-right lie and claim that for the past six-plus years, and especially lately; I've lost countless hours of sleep worrying just when the nic will/must-needs-be/anytime-now/2007-2013/tomorrow-for-sure/etc be implemented? If "yous'e" seek any serious consideration...well..you could at least do us all the service of providing yet another "T-Minus" countdown clock for our consideration and amusement. I'm certain that all can always benefit from yet more hearty chuckles. 🙂 I'll offer some assistance with that task: http://www.armyofleonidas.org/ ". Only an engineer that never sat in a cockpit could presume to improve upon the Wilber and Orville method of power management by introducing asynchronous auto-thrust levers.

AB is a great office. I like to be proud of the plane I fly but I won't defend some really irrational design decisions.

AB is a great office. I like to be proud of the plane I fly but I won't defend some really irrational design decisions.

On the other hand, the trust levers in THAT aircraft were in the exact position where an Orville/Wilber system would have had them...IDLE. It was a choice...and a bad one. The level of safety is directly proportional to the level of knowlege/understanding of the automation. In this case, there was no automation barrier because they turned it off. Dumb...

I didn't say I don't enjoy flying it. but I don't accept the notion that there are no areas to admit can be improved. Boeings are loud, cramped, and hot. And you have to stuff the TPS into the eyebrow windows! But at least Boeing has a synchronous control system for the ailerons, elevator, rudder, and power. Pick your poison, and if the crew ain't bellyaching once in awhile, they ain't really crew.

OK OK, I'll stop joisting with you. The 330 is a cadillac but ground air won't cool the cockpit on the ground. It's a pain sometimes to walk into a 90 degree cockpit. Now I'm a REAL pilot... 🙂
