Just out of curiosity ,the rumor is that America West has consolidated all of their ramp work into one.Is this true ? Are mainline employees doing all of the ramp work in AWA cities? This is a important factor as we go forward towards combining the two work forces into one.More mainline work means more mainline employees.

That's the way that it should be. The operation ran much better that way prior to making it separate back in the early 90's in most of the US Stations.

Not a rumor.

AWA at all cities (where rampers are AWA employees), except PHX, has mainline employees working Express flights. Everyone is paid the same whether they work 4 757s a shift or 4 50-seat CRJs. AWA rampers will soon be taking over the Mesa bagroom. If that works well, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mesa ramp taken over.

BTW, AWA fleet service in PHX handled Express until bk, when the Express was sold to Mesa. The Mesa fleet service is a vestigial relic of that bk. Other cities with AWA fleet service had no, or very few, Express flights at that time. The large cities of LAX, LAS, and formerly CMH have (had) large amounts of Express flights but AWA fleet works (worked) those flights.
