NOT trying to "stir the pot" (seriously),

But since AA and UAL have already announced SIZABLE operational/employee reductions, can LCC(or CO) be far behind ?

We did that already....like six years ago. It's time you kids caught up. Not being a smarty pants just stating a fact. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if US cut a few percent across the board.

I can offer a cost savings for Usairways, Piedmont- wholly subsidiary of our company. In both Clt and Phl airports you have a combined workforce of about 1400 employees. For every one agent there are at least 2 supes and 2 managers...now that is a big COST SAVINGS. There is no need for such an abundance of managerial positions to run and Express carrier. Mainline doesn't even come close to that ratio. 1/3 of these managers are handed a blue vest and given a radio...for what reason I cannot fathom. TOO TOP HEAVY and very COSTLY. There are so many inept managers running around it is very apparent how silly and how unneccesary it is.

At town hall meeting last week we were told to expect the shrinkage numbers in two weeks. You can bet they're coming. Scooter Kirby said even as we approach the minimum fleet requirements set in the Transition Agreement block hours can still be chopped significantly.

Don't be surprised by ANYTHING we are about to hear from management in the coming weeks. If they looked hard at a bag of pretzels don't think they will leave a stone unturned. Hey they are GREAT at cutting so......

I guess I'm dismayed at the air carriers cutting mainline aircraft but retaining 50-seat regionals.

Is there any legal or economic angle to do the opposite? It just seems sad to push operations on to more inefficient, more congestion causing aircraft.

Considering the size of cuts that UA has announced do the pilots over there have a minimum fleet count as the pilots at US? If so how are they getting around it? If there is a way to circumvent the count I'm sure our management is on it like white on rice.

I'm not scared. Bring it on, I've always wanted to try out a job at Starbucks. i'd be so jacked out of my mind all day long I'd forget to miss this place. Furlough party!

Minimum hull count is not as important as minimum block hours, which is what the UA pilots have. US will be cutting flights just like everyone else. If they get to minimum fleet size they will just significantly reduce block hours and shrink unprofitable flying, which will mean work force reduction. I think CO will follow suit. The big question is what DL will do. Spirit just announced that they will furlough 60% of their f/a's and 45% of their pilots. No one is immune to fuel prices. It is becoming a waiting game, or "survival of the fittest" if you prefer. Those who react fastest and most aggressively will be better off in the long run.

Once again we all find ourselves in the situation of absorbing a little pain now, or alot more pain in the future.

Adminstrative and middle management cuts are already taking place. No press releases needed for this. Announcments affecting CSA, FA, Pilots is forthcoming after analysis.

here's an idea on COST SAVINGS: How about getting rid of few mgmt. For example, in my city, the inside is mainline, and they have sta mgr and one other mgr Now im sure the bigger the station the more mgrs there are, but come on, is it necessary to have so many mgrs in each city? Also cut, slice, mgmt pay and stock options. DO NOT TAKE FROM THE EMPLOYEES THERE IS NOTHING LEFT FOR EMPLOYEES TO GIVE

Without both pilot groups agreeing to allow the minimum fleet size be reduced, I believe bankruptcy will be the path chosen. While there, other issues will be "discussed", but, in the main, bankruptcy will be to reduce the size dynamic. It may be the only option available to management after negotiations were found to be unreasonable. Can anyone imagine the chaos should management suggest a 50 aircraft reduction, the positions taken by west/east knowing that any acceptance of "furlough" on the part of the west will be the final nail for the "nic"?

I thought the east pilots contract called for not only a minimum fleet count but ALSO a minimum hours per day clause as well. Anyone?

You exaggerating a bit Dexter? That would be 280 agents, 560 supervisors, and 560 managers.

I expect to see offers of voluntary leaves and early retirement packages. Depending on how many takers we get, there could be furloughs too. I think Delta just did this and got a lot more response than they thought.
