BIG CUTS coming to LCC anytime soon ?

aren't we a small fry compared to UA and AA? This may be an oppportunity to really compete. We're all struggling, now it's time to seperate ourselves.

Piedmont in Philly has about 700 ramp and gate agents. THERE ARE ABOUT 100 additional managers and supervisors on top of that. Dexters response is not as far fetched as you may think. Management I am sure are looking deeply into this as they need to cut costs.

I'm not scared. Bring it on, I've always wanted to try out a job at Starbucks. i'd be so jacked out of my mind all day long I'd forget to miss this place. Furlough party!

I worked at Starbucks when I was furloughed and it was awesome. You get coffee to take home and they have health insurance.

The levels of managers and supervisors...IS NOTHING..compared to pre-merger US Airways. Luckily America West was able to use it's previous structure to frame the post-merger US Airways, thus keeping multiple positions tightened up.

Oh, yeah, Amateur West in general has just done a bang-up job with everything, positioned us well 🙄 Like you know anything about pre-mashup US Airways.

Adminstrative and middle management cuts are already taking place. No press releases needed for this. Announcments affecting CSA, FA, Pilots is forthcoming after analysis.

The "A" team spotted at a local area job fair .........

"Previous experience?" "President and CEO Amateur West - Us Airways" Interesting."

"I am sorry Starbucks is not currently hiring for executive positions at the current time. We already met our quota this quarter with the former SkyBus executives......but could we interest you in a level career opportunities in one of our our Asian markets????? Say Mumbai? Are you fluent in Hindi?"

I bet you got to go home every night and sleep in your own bed, had a set schedule so you knew when you were going to be working so you would know when to eat, sleep, make appts, take a shower, etc., and I bet you didn't even have to work on Christmas or Thanksgiving either!

I guess I'm dismayed at the air carriers cutting mainline aircraft but retaining 50-seat regionals.

Is there any legal or economic angle to do the opposite? It just seems sad to push operations on to more inefficient, more congestion causing aircraft.

Overall I agree with you, but at AA, for instance, other factors are impeding progress on that front.

The mainline pilot scope clause still prohibits 70 seaters (except for the 25 already on the property), so AA can't dump 50 seaters for 70 seaters without paying off the pilots, and that will cost much more money than the fuel efficiency benefits. And although the 50 seaters are inefficient, the only other alternative at AA are the 140 seat MD-80s, which would be much worse in many markets (far too many seats).

AA is dumping the 37 seat and maybe the 44 seat Scope-Buster RJs plus the old 30 seat SAAB turboprops, but the 50 seaters are here to stay.

Another problem with many of the 50 seaters is that at many airlines they're flown by contract carriers and it's not always easy to terminate those contracts - witness Delta's trouble in trying to dump Messy.

Long-term, you're right. So is Boyd. 50 seaters are not the future and will be retired in large numbers. My guess is that 70-90 seaters are the future, but that getting there means clearing away a lot of the hurdles like the AA examples above.

At town hall meeting last week we were told to expect the shrinkage numbers in two weeks. You can bet they're coming. Scooter Kirby said even as we approach the minimum fleet requirements set in the Transition Agreement block hours can still be chopped significantly.

I am not sure what the number is, but US can only "shrink" to a certain number of aircraft contractually. We are not that far from that number either.

I believe the crew news session in CLT/May Parker addresses this issue and said basically that.

Oh come on Shannon we all know you'd get jacked up on these Cinnamon Dolce Lattes you'd be sneaking out of work if you ever had a "career" or a "job" at Starbucks.

I'll bring the Bean Dip to the Furlough Party fresh from SJO.

Yes I did! The Starbucks was a 5 minute drive from my house so I saved a lot on gas money. I worked 5 days a week from 6-2 and anything over 40 hours was time and a half. It's a great company to work for. They offer healthcare and tuition reimbursement and the employees are treated well. I actually worked Christmas and Thanksgiving because I don't celebrate either holiday, it gave someone who actually celebrated the holiday the time off.

Nonsense. Post merger there were numerous additional managers hired in stations and in corporate. The Kids in the Sandbox have to keep their little buddies happy.

How many senior directors, directors, senior vice-presidents, vice presidents, and other assorted six-figure suits does Southwest employ?
