With all the talk about the deadly bird flu doesn't it make sense that all airline workers be given a vaccine first. This is something our union leaders should be pressing for in congress to protect the membership and the rest of the planet!

We will be the first infected for sure with travel the way it is today.

God help us all if this bug makes it way into the air transportation network.

What everyones thought good idea?

Yep...good idea for sure. All airport folks who come in direct contact with customers should get it. Problem is I don't think you can make people take the vaccine.

roadtrip,

I think you are absolutely on target. I don't know if we could even get access. Once this becomes available, every single American will want it.

The US has only vaccine for 2% of the population presenty vs. Great Britian has 45%.

Does anyone know that once given the vaccine, is it full prove, or does its shelf life and protection decrease over time, OR, is it possible that the strain can mutate where the vaccine is no longer useful. I know that viruses in a host to exist vs. bacterial are living organisms and need no host to survive. I also know that bacteria strains mutates all the time and certain Anti- biotics are no longer useful.

I bet Bush has the vaccine already and has stashed for his entire family and friends. I also bet the elite wealthy (includes our managment B) has it stashed as well.

Its the poor, elderly and working labor that doesn't and won't have that access.

In 1918 during the Spanish pandemic, 14 million died and it went 3 times around the world before eraticated.

I believe when this hits the states, it will be through the airlines coming from China and spreading through human to human contact in the air system.

They say you expire between 5 to 7 days, not nearly enough time to get a vaccine or wait in line for one.

I would think that the government would start setting up innoculations asap, specifically because we are in a period of time where terrorist are all over the world calculating their next attack.

Just remember if you would contract the virus according to most contracts you must be hospitalized in order to collect 100% sick pay!!! 😛

PITbull......Was that called for?? For Christs sake, he is the PRESIDENT...get over it already!!!! You don't think the Clintons/Gores/Kerrys, hell the Kennedys'....hiccup...have access as well???? Quotes like this belong to the trash heap of history, along with this type of SOCIALISTIC mentality.......You really got me on the last quote......I love how you lumped in "working labor" with the poor and elderly  I'm surprised you didn't use the other PC word......minorities  .....I'm shocked you forgot that one as well....

Leave political thoughts to another thread........GOOD DAY!!!

I believe they are long way off from having any vaccine available.

My belief is that nature has its own way of thinning the herd. To circumvent this process we continue overpopulation, starvation, the overuse of resources, etc. Let things take its own course. Deadly flu pandemics can be our friend!

The "bird flu" can not be transfered between humans.
This is just another diversion from your totally out of control president.
Things are going poorly in Iraq, republican senators and advisors are being indicted like crazy, poor resonse to hurricanes...
Time for a diversion or how about raising the threat level???
We stopped 10 (an even number) of threats against the US and guess where the info came from? "Iraqi sources"- how convenient!

Don't get upset over something that has a "remote chance" (per the medical community) of happening. Just Texas politics as usual.

I believe you can buy Tamiflu from a variety of places if you want something now instead of waiting.

But the virus hasn't gone from human to human yet, and there is not necessarily anything to suggest it will. Just a lot of doomsday sayers saying it could.

This strain has been known for years, at least since 1997 or earlier. Our government and the media have brought it to the spotlight to the point of creating a near-panic.

To suggest airline workers should get it before anyone else is a bit overreaching though. Millions upon millions of workers in all industries come in contact with other people every day.

As a virus uses the machinery of human cells to produce other virus strips, small particles of human cells may make it possible to be transferred human-to-human. But a frog may evolve over millenia to grow wings so he doesn't have to bounce around on his butt.

Bush and Dick Cheney have found that it is incredibly easy to manipulate the US population if it is in the grip of fear.

I can guarantee you that I have a female cousin near Pittsburgh who is just trembling in her trailer, she is afraid to leave the trailer for the risk of contacting this bird flu, and there are millions more like her.

We are usually their first point of contact after getting off the plane from Asia and clearing customs. Some of those arriving from Southeast Asia are coughing and sneezing in our faces as we check them in. Makes for a very scary thought.

Shots for airline workers! HAH!

Look how much consideration poultry workers are getting

Maybe if enough of them die....

but wait, then they wouldn't need the shot!

Considering the emergency response to Katrina, how well do you reckon the response will be if this thing mutates into human-to-human transmission?

The vaccine will likely first be available to Congress, the administration, and other high level federal officials.

After that, "every man for himself." What's in YOUR wallet?
