Never said it was perfect. I believe I even said the system needs an overhaul.
A for profit education system is not the way to go. Look at the costs involved in a private education. How many people can afford that? I know my wifes brother could not afford a private education for his two girls. They are in public school taking AP classes and near the top of their class. They are in one of the best school districts in tbe DFW area. Kids in less affluent areas do not have the same opportunities. Your education should not be dependant on your social status or what state you live in. The only thing that should matter is wanting to learn and being given that opportunity. With out that this country is doomed.
Local Catholic School (private School) tuition here is as pasted from a school website
The actual cost per pupil, based on projected enrollment and expenses, is approximately
$5,000.
The average tuition rate for a Catholic education in the United States is
$3,000.
The difference between tuition and actual per pupil cost is made up through our parish subsidy, fundraising, and donations.
Of the approximately 60 families we served during the 2010-11 school year, 20% qualified for partial or full scholarships.
- An Enrollment Form has been completed and turned in
- A Tuition Agreement has been completed and turned in
- A $50, non-refundable, deposit has been paid
K-6 first child $2,875
Compared to the Following
Minnesota school districts. The state average cost of adequate education was
$6,236 per pupil. The cost was well over twice the state average for the district facing the harshest educational environment
($14,446) and approximately $700 less per pupil in districts with the most advantageous environment
($5,524).
The typical private elementary school in Minnesota spends half as much per pupil as the typical public elementary school in Minnesota. In general these private schools achieve better results than their public school counterparts. Furthermore; contrary to what the education establishment would have us believe the demographics of private schools are very similar to those of the public schools.
Seems like the private sector here is doing more with less as is the norm in society.
