ok you guys at cactus . whats going on? what have you heard? these merger rumors are getting really heated. and please do not be pissed at the us employees. neither the cactus employees nor the us employees are making the decisions here. our management is. so let's not start bashing each other and keep it clean.

I know nothing more then what I have read on the Internet and in newspapers.

However, I do not think any deal, if it occurs, will be a merger. Perhaps a potential asset purchase, but not a full-out merger.

Just my opinion.

Note that the article says that AWA will have a cash crunch of its own by year's end if oil prices don't come down. Where is the money for this deal coming from? And, I don't see how a code-sharing agreement does anything to "consolidate" the industry. In theory any airline can codeshare with any other airline as long as anti-trust laws are not broken, but that doesn't "fix" any of the problems we all face right now.

I do not think that there is any possible way there is a merger between these 2 airlines. I think AWA is simply looking at specific pieces. US employees would have to take another pay cut to work for AWA. How many of the rampers are going to stay around for an even lower top out? I think that most of the airlines will want some piece of the puzzle, so AWA is just figuring out what there corner is now. Just my thoughts...............

Hi Everyone,

HP has come a long way in the past years since 9/11 - Service improvements, fleet adjustments and simply just getting the product right. I hope they do not take on more than can chew. However, a bigger HP sounds great to me!

Who has said HP is for sale?

If you don't like the responses you are getting, why did you start this thread on the HP board? HP is doing relatively fine at the moment.

i didn't say i did not like the responses. sorry if it came out that way. all i meant was that no one is saying that hp is gonna buy us or that us is gonna buy hp . just that the two companies are plannig to merge . that's it . so take a chill pill my fellow cactus friend.

If this deal actually becomes a full merger or buy-out, you good folks at HP will need to get your resumes updated and ready for your next job. While I don't have anything against US, they will take any associated company down the drain with them. HP certainly needs to look for their next opportunity before their next cash crisis, but I don't think this is the right deal, at the right place, at the right time.

Are you saying that WN is invincible? What airline, or combination of airlines has a chance of slaying WN? I mean WN only had a 64% LF last quarter, so they are relying on low costs for their success, not high revenue. So if hypothetically, an airline were to emerge with a source of cash sufficient to hedge their fuel costs as well as WN, what current airline(s) could put the rest of the package together?

luvn737,

I made no reference to WN whatsoever in my comment about the HP/US merger rumor, nor did I opine on the relative competitive significance. I am merely saying that I don't see how the hypotyhetical merged entity of UA and HP could survive, while I do think that AWA has a fair chance of survival with a healthy partner.

Who would be the best partner for AWA? Given the current status of the industry, the relative health of each carrier, and the route strengths therein, my best guess would be Air Tran (at this moment).

My guess is that AWA looks at US RASM (which is relatively high) and thinks that if they could overlay their (AWA's) low CASM, they would have a winning formula. What is ignored is the complexity of the Air Wis/Republic/AW mismanage'e trois and the fact that they will still be paying retail for fuel.

AWA should be bought by Exxon, now that would be a merger!
