Cactus , Whats Going On With Us?

An Exxon buy-out would be the wet dream of any airline but I doubt AWA is on that list. Keep thinking...

ok you guys at cactus . whats going on? what have you heard? these merger rumors are getting really heated. and please do not be pissed at the us employees. neither the cactus employees nor the us employees are making the decisions here. our management is. so let's not start bashing each other and keep it clean.

no reason to be mad at anyone....if you look at everything that has been going, something will happen soon. Every analyst out there has said that the industry needs to shrink. After reading everything everyone has talked about here the question is US is too big for HP, who said that HP was going to keep US as it is today?

1) US was coming out of bankrupcy on June, that was pushed back to August. hmmm... Being in BK is easier to work out several aspect of a merger.
2) Hiring at US is coming to a stand still and they are not filling several managment positions that are needed for operational purposes.
3) HP has the financial backing from well, trust me it is there and being worked on.
Financng and cash that HP has and the "cash crunch" that Jamie Baker from JD Power, in my opinion, is worst case sernario and is not relavent at this moment when it comes to a merger.

anyway a US/HP merger with some reduction of service is a good thing for the industry. One gets tired of hearing that no one is making money, but the only airlines even thinking about fixing this problem right now is HP & US....

but then again, what do i know????

I think its going to Happen...just cant see these airlines going it alone. time will tell...

I know there are different financial issues to iron out but I don't think this will have the problems that the past UAL/US merger attempt had. In my opinion, the money will be found. How this is gonna affect the employees, most importantly, is another story. It's exciting and nerve wracking all together. Nobody knows.

You folks at AmWest are fools if you buy US.. Fools.. It will be the end of the both of you.. The smart money is to wait and buy the chunks.

How many furloughed pilots at HP? Some of U's furloughed pilots have over 14 years senority. Wonder how this will merge? 🙁

HP has been hiring pilots off the street. Hopefully, if this happens they won't get screwed over. The UAIR pilots could've applied. Instead they are waiting for a place at US or MidAtlantic.

I am no fan of US and I hope that this doesn't turn into another of US's disasters like PSA or Piedmont.

Keep the HQ in Phoenix!

bluetoad, a lot of them have resigned their senority to work for other companies. Furthermore, a significant number of pilots are leaving US Airways. The pilot attrition at US Airways is currently 1.2 pilots per day (retirements, resignations to work elsewhere, medical issues). In a nutshell, US is short of pilots contrary to what you're hearing. Nobody is flying the extra hours management was hoping. Lots of flights being cancelled.

Bronner said the leadership at America West was another important factor propelling negotiations.

Executives who run the airline "are more than happy to go back to playing golf as opposed to running an airline that is extremely difficult," Bronner said, calling America West managers "extremely capable people ... that are well-respected in the industry."

Interesting quote here...sounds like Parker etc. might run the merged company from Tempe if it does go through. We'll have to see who puts up the cash.

I was a U res agent and retired. I am now a HP res agent and much happier here. I actually love my job and management is so much better but------do you think they'll give me back my seniority if there's a merge??? SURE WOULD BE NICE TO MAKE A LITTLE MORE MONEY.

US Airways, America West in talks - Merger talks could lead to new low-cost carrier

According to the Journal report, if an agreement is reached, the initial plan would be to fly under the "US Airways" brand immediately but keep operations separate, linking the network through code-sharing, while fleets and personnel are integrated.

The merger scenario would require US Airways to find $350 million to $500 million in total new funding, and possibly to arrange an additional $250 million in loans. According to the Journal report, US Airways is approaching a number of sources, including private equity firms, other regional airlines and its creditors.

If US Airways succeeds, a holding company created by the merger would give stock in the new company to America West shareholders, US Airways creditors and new equity investors, The Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the discussions.

Complete Story

I really hope that Hp will stay away from US. I have been down that road before with AA/TWA. Nothing good will come of this supposed merger.

Columbia blue, agreed. The bozos at U management have proven time and again that they do not know how to run 'proper' airline operations. The only reason US Airways is in business today is because of the employees. They've managed to keep the airline functioning while the idiots in Arlington pour over spreadsheets on what to cut next and who they can sell the airline to. The only hope in a combined airline is if America West management runs it...and it stays in Tempe. I am sure every US Airways employee would agree on that.
