Christmas sick calls ?

Very true Bob, the point was that "BOB" was bragging about taking Christmas off. Not sick, just self serving lazy.

No, just tired of busting my butt every year over the holidays. I have flown every Christmas for the past 4 years and decided to spend this one with family.

I have earned my SK time and if you don't use it you loose it! Why give back my SK time that is mine to the compAAny? If they paid me for it, then I wouldn't call in SK.

Ground employees get time and a half (Garfield1966) included. Ground employees are home after their shift for Christmas dinner (Garfield1966) included. F/A's are stuck in a hotel with no food, because everything is closed for the holiday.

Besides the compAAny can't fire you for being SK. It's against the law and if you have a doctor's note, it's even more illegal for them to fire you. In fact it's against the law to write an employee up for being SK. Especially with a doctor's note. CA SK is a great deal!

FA Mikey... Are you a SCAB from 93'? You sure sound like a SCAB. You should change your name to Pro CompAAny!! 😉

Your actions speak for themselves.

If you were so sure of yourself I bet you wouldn't stoop to calling people scabs. Calling in sick doesn't hurt the company only your fellow flight attendants. So when it comes down to who would stand by you as a union member I think I would side with Mikey.

I would suggest that others not rely on your "legal advice" concerning an employers ability to fire an employee for abuse of sick leave with or without a doctors note. Labor law is infinitely more complicated than your obviously uninformed advice would suggest.

Hunter

p.s. How is something any more or any less "illegal?"

I understand that there were 55 reassignments at DFW on Christmas morning after they ran out of available reserves. So, someone who thought they were through with their trip and on the way home to spend the rest of Christmas Day with their family got sent back out to cover for some selfish piece of cr*p. The company wasn't hurt in the least.

That's why everyone knows you don't bid a line that comes back after the 22nd. If you do, you will be reassigned. Sick calls on holidays are a fact of life. Deal with it. They always have been and they will continue to be the norm.

One day the company will figure out holiday pay makes people work holidays. One day.

B.O.B, I was known at TWA for never having lost a termination grievance during my years as a Union rep. I have to tell you that I would have "passed" on working your very possible termination because anyone that is not smart enough to know that you don't post your "business" on a public forum doesn't deserve to keep their job. (Especially when there are over 4000 of your fellow coworkers who would have loved the opportunity to work on Christmas.) I don't think even a Drs. note will help you UNLESS you have blocked ears or sinuses and can prove that they were blocked when you called off. Intent is a funny "animal".

Your mini strike was in '93. You were not out long enough to trade recipes much less be "tested". I wonder how many of the sanctimonious would have still been there after 6 weeks, 6 months, a year or more? Grow up, give it a rest. It is the past and life goes on. We live in a country that prides itself on the right of "choice". You can only be responsible for what you decide in a strike situation, not what someone else does. We all have to live with those choices. It is the person in the mirror that is the most important "judge". (ps, I was "out" from 3-86 to 5-88, so I have "earned" the right to address this very emotional issue)

Your attitude about sk reminds me of one of my children.. Our school "allows" 8 days a semester before credits are lost. One of my foster sons thought those 8 days were a gift and he would be remiss if he didn't use every one. Senior year, last 2 weeks of school, flu hit, long story, short, he came VERY close to being on the 5 year plan. Sk is for legitimate illnesses, anything else is abuse of sick leave and it is a terminating offense. In this less than labor friendly time, I think abuse of sk is a very stupid way to end a career. IMHO This isn't "pro company", just smart. I don't agree with AAs attendance policy but your issue isn't about that, it is about being a responsible adult in a grown up business. Single mom, flew for 33 years before being furloughed. Christmas always managed to come no matter when I was scheduled to fly. But then I taught my family early on that Christmas wasn't about "the day". (nor is any other holiday)

You might want to think about exploring another career. Teaching has most holidays,(and summer) off. I'm with an agency that closes from 2 days before Christmas until after the New Year, with pay. You'll kill 2 birds with one stone..You'll have holidays off and your fellow f/as won't have to miss their holidays to cover your lack of work ethic. AND as an additional bonus, there will one more "place" that AA might need to fill with a person who really wants to be there, holiday or not..

Happy New Year.

And this fact that F/As travel and stay in hotels and flights operate on holidays was a surprise to you when you took the job? Pathetic excuses. If you wanted regular hours and a ground job that gives them, you should have applied for one.

"More illegal"? I think the techinical legal term is "illegaler," Esquire!

Even assuming your assessment of the state sick leave law is accurate, you might want to verify that it applies to airline employees covered by the RLA. Many state labor laws are preempted for airline crewmembers. For example, just the other day, a court found that a California wage and hour law requiring lunch breaks does not apply to F/As.

Spoken like a true senior AA f/a. "The solution is to bid a better line like I do." Well, if some of you would retire, I could.

Don't be fooled by my senior sounding rants. I'm very junior. I'm just a bit&hing veteran.

You should bid avbl on holiday months and you could get the days off too. 😉

Might as well bid it before they do away with it. That's probably next.

Garfield(The movie),

While I "deeply" respect your right to voice your opinion, was it necessary to "berate" B.O.B. with so much namecalling ??

NH/BB's

Yes.

Oooohhhhhh Ahhhhhhh! 4 whole years ooooohhhhh aahhhhh. I have close to 20 years and this is the firsts year I was able to hld 25/26 off and that was just becasue I bid a line with it off. I'l have to hld out at least another 15 years to hold vacation off. My folks live out of state and I have not been with them on the actual holiday since I started with AA. I go back inJanuary and we celebrate then.

I know you are a bit slow but when you signed up for this gig, you agreed to work weekends, nights and holidays. Don;t like it? Fine another job.

But you are a self centered low life so you'll just go about screwing over your fellow FA's.

See post #20. Been there done that and surprise surprise surprise, it did not work. Neeeexxxxxtttttttt!!!!

Do you really want someone with his lack of ethics and morals teaching your child? He/She or it will be of less danger to society as a FA.

God I hope so.

You might want to research a little before claiming what other people make on Holidays. I can not speak for any ground worker but I can assure you Garfield does not make time and a half on the holidays.

If you truly are a flight attendant I feel sorry for those who have to put up with you on the line. I feel sorry for the passengers that have to put up with someone like you on the plane. It must really suck to go through life hating what you do for a living.

On the part of sk time is yours to use. The Company provides you with the benifit of paid sick days to use when you are sick, not to use when you are not sick.

People like you give the entire profession of Flight Attendant a bad name. For the most part they are hard working individuals with alot of education and integrity. You for one have none.

Have a Happy Holidays on the sick list and heres to you haveing a great new year. I hope you fly enough sick make up so you can take the holidays off next year.

God help you and any other person that abuses sick time, if something such as CANCER should come into your life. Imagine how much more stressful that situation would be if you are worried about being able to pay for rent and treatments and running out of sick time to help pay your bills. There is a reason for having paid sick time, and it is NOT so you can get a weekend or holiday off with your family when you want it.

All of you above who are two faced idiots (Garf, Operaations, FA Mikey, miAAmi, etc...) Kiss my....

AA is a terrible airline to work for and most people have realized it. They don't care about anyone but senior management. Look what Arpey is getting, millions in stock options to stay until 2015. Do you idiots understand what this will be worth in 2015? Have you ever wondered why AA is called the SkynAAzis. No, you're to stupid to realize it.

I am planning on quiting as soon as all of my SK time is burned. I will not give back my SK tyime to this worthless compAAny, like all of you KOOL-AAID drinkers would. I am looking forward to not working for AA, it has been a waste of time.

GO USC!!!

Moderator, please shut my account down so I don't have to deal with these stupid pro-compAAny AA fools. Thank you.

I just want to know what finally did you in. I know the s8it keeps piling up, but I want to know what finally sent you over the edge?

I can actually feel your pain but I am not where you are. I still enjoy the job and can separate my angst at management from my job performance.

What was it, Bob? Fess up.
