Does anyone know why we are deadheading pilots from STL to DFW to cover the 1st HNL trip?

TWA integration agreement, mandates International crew base in STL. Even though there are little to no true international trips in and out of STL now.

Correction. There are NO international flights from STL--at least, not on AA. The last was STL-SJU, but that was done away with some time ago.

PVR starts up this month, but as everyone knows, Mexico is considered part of the domestic system for all bases except MIA.

It was my understanding that STL was guaranteed a certain percentage of system flying, but only on MD-80 and 757 equipment. I heard TWA crews don't fly 767's

I had a TW crew pilot a 767 just a couple of weeks ago. We were supposed to fly a 75 out of LAS to DFW. The plane came in from DFW and it was 76 substituted at the last minute due to a mechanical on the 75.

I was told that the cockpits of the 75 and 76 are identical; so, to the FAA a pilot certified on one is certified on the other.

At TWA the 757/767 was a single type rating and crews could fly a 757 out and a 767 back. I don't know if AA's certificate allows this or not, or if the degree of cockpit commonality is the same.

Yes AA does allow this, although there was concern with TWA's 767/757 fleets having slightly different CP configurations. With AA already having 757-200/767-200/767-200ER/767-300ER, there was potentially a problem getting another CP on AA's certificate and maintaining CP type rating for the 757 crews. Therefore AA returned TWA's 767 fleet in exchange for planes with identical CP's to AA's fleet. I wasn't sure, but I thought AA was still doing STL/SJU seasonally on the weekend, and also STL/CUN.

Jim,

Not entirely true about Mexico and MIA. IOR flies a CUN trip because, it goes over the gulf of mexico. Same with the STL-CUN, either IMA or IOR was flying it, depending on the month. I am sure IDF flies CUN and Cozumel. Not sure, but I think so. Plus when IOR had 2 daily HNL trips, one was flown by STL pilots. We were told it was because they were guaranteed a certain amount of CA positions and thus needed something to fly.

If you are talking about IOR-CUN being flown by former TW pilots, that is not what we were talking about. There are no non-stop STL-CUN or STL-SJU flights anymore. At least none listed in RES. I am assuming that even if seasonal, this would be the season. (Lord knows, nobody in their right mind goes to CUN in high summer.)

If you ask for STLCUN service in RES, the response shows connections through MIA and DFW.

Not true! I had some on my JFK-LAX-JFK flights in the past. The whole crew was shocked to see them. It was a 767 thrown in for 1 leg on their 4 day trip.

It still exists with no flights.

I would have assumed that some ex-TWA pilots had been flying some 763s; TWA was flying several of them at the time of the acquisition - and throughout 2002, they were still flying LAX-STL and other routes.

As AIRLUVer posted above, the TW 76s were returned to the lessor. The only time a 76 comes to STL today is when one gets diverted there due to weather in ORD.

I wish we could get some 76 trips in STL. I could never hold a 76 line, but maybe I could get a couple of trips on reserve months. 😀

I know they were returned, but not right away - I don't think the P&W 763s departed until about the time the new replacement 763s (ordered by AA in 2001 to replace them) showed up in 2003.

My bad! Just saw in a Jetwire that STL-CUN flights are supposed to resume "in the Spring." They have been cancelled up until now because of the hurricane damage last summer.
