Well those Compass Correction guys, you know Dinsdale Piranah aka Woodrow Menear has endorsed Paul Diorio as Chairman for the BPR in PHL. This is quite a difference from Last April.
You’ve got to be kidding me…Woody and the CCC have always thrown rocks at DiOrio…now he’s their best buddy! Hey, I don’t care who you vote for but Woody and his blog have ZERO credibility with me anymore…here are a few famous CCC blogs.

A New Day for USAPA

So fellow pilots and USAPA members, particularly you the PHL voters, it is time to pay attention to this little glimpse into the current political world of Mike Cleary and his last desperate grasp for power. It is also important to note the continued political maneuvering by the current CLT and PHL reps and their disregard for your wishes, not to mention YOUR money.
We know Jamie Weidner from our days as the Council 41 leaders who were the first to declare our opposition to the NIC. Jamie was right there with us on the bus to and from Herndon and he’s never gotten off that bus since. He is the intelligent, rational and independent candidate that we can all be proud of.

ALL ABOARD….LAST CALL!
Jamie Weidner equals progress; his opponent is a blast from our recent past of a failed union leadership. We may not care in the least for Mr. Parker and his style, but his management team is leading this freight train toward his vision of the airline’s future. We can either get on board, insisting that we help control the speed and select which track we follow, or we can again try to stand on the tracks and yell, “stop!” We no longer have the luxury of time to see when or if obdurate and contrarian strategies will eventually bend the company to our will…;
Please, if you haven’t voted yet, vote for Jamie Weidner.

This is a very important election and your careful, informed vote will determine the direction this union takes. Do we move forward to a new day, a new culture, and success, or do we return to the past 3 years of “nothing?”;

For the first time in over a decade, US Airways pilots are in position to improve our working conditions, perhaps dramatically. Even better, not only
can
it be done in weeks, circumstances dictate that it
must…;
We have been mired in a swamp for the last 3 years, as relates to contract negotiations (Paul DiOrio)…. Most assuredly, now is a time where reasonable men, with reasonable minds, must take the lead; that means electing such reasonable men and women and rebuking, or replacing those who doggedly cling to the failed tactics of our recent past.

At the PHL Domicile, right now, we are facing such a decision and an opportunity. One candidate is tied to our previous USAPA leadership, a leadership who produced 3 years of
less
than nothing, meaning that their style inflicted actual harm on our pilots, individually and collectively. The relationship with the company, (what little there was of it) – was contentious, marginalized, and unproductive. USAPA’s last three years were initially marked by mutual mistrust and it deteriorated from there, to complete isolation and antagonism.

In short, we need clear headed, calm thinking pilot advocates and we need them now. Do not vote for any candidate who doesn’t have a grasp on what is about to happen either with us, or to us, depending upon how our elected representatives conduct themselves. We have come to the conclusion that the right man to represent the best interests of the PHL pilots and indeed, those of all the US Airways pilots is Jamie Weidner. We urge you to cast your vote for Jamie; he will do the difficult job ahead with integrity, honesty and thoughtful deliberation.

RJ’s – aka Contract Killers

Back in the Fall of 2002 with the ink still wet on Restructuring Agreement #1, the AAA MEC was back at the concession table mulling over giving the company another bite of the apple while the Company operated under the protection of the bankruptcy court. Section one (Scope) of our contract was a hot topic and much sought after as always. The conventional wisdom was that Airlines couldn’t compete without a fleet of shiny new Regional Jets flown by young Pilots at half the pay rates with lousy working conditions saturating the airspace with Southwest-like frequency.

It was in this time frame that USAPAs’ CLT Representative Steve Crimi made his now infamous “career” move to the MESA Alter Ego operation, Freedom Airlines. This move predated LOA 85 (loss of DB Pension), LOA 91 (out sourcing), and LOA 93. Now that’s clairvoyant!

No Vote: Doug Mowery… the only No-Vote…the much maligned by the “Regime”, anti junior Pilot supporter- Doug Mowery; funny old thing, those smear campaigns, no? Is that the same DiOrio…?
In simple terms, in case you still missed the point:

It was the then PHL Captain Rep, Doug Mowery who single handedly ensured that the vote would be recorded (division) so those who voted in favor of giving the Negotiating Committee the big green light would not be able to hide later on. It was also he Mowery, who stood alone to slow down this runaway train.

So, we all know how this worked out.

The USAirways pilots, with the “turbulence” of 9-11’s perfect storm, agreed to relax section 1 scope with job protections for the USAirways pilots and pilot furloughees…”soft landings”. We all know what a failure MDA was, and are reminded of that everytime a Republic Airlines 170 goes by, or, as the case a few weeks ago in DFW, a USAirways crew watched a MidWest Express 170 taxi by with a MD tail number. We all know what a failure the “jets for jobs” program was also, as our furloughees were subject to low pay and horrible working conditions at many of our partner regional airlines. It didn’t seem to work out much better for US Airways either.

One of the most notorious regional airlines with notably horrible pay and working conditions was MESA, led by the anti-labor CEO Jonathon Ornstein, which was quickly putting a plan in place to undercut Scope provisions and gain an advantage, a la Frontier Horizons, New York Air, et al, over his own unions with the creation of Freedom Airlines.

So, while airline MGT teams were gleefully gutting contracts, furloughing pilots, terminating pensions, and extracting huge concessions from labor under the bankruptcy code, threat of liquidation, and the turmoil after 9-11, some MGT teams went further, like MESA did to extract even more through the creation of an alter-ego airline.

However, MESA needed one thing for their plan to work . . .

Without it, their plan wouldn’t get off the ground. MESA’s alter-ego airline needed pilots, and Steve Crimi signed up. We should all be trying to prevent the mistakes made at ALPA, but unfortunately with some of the same players entrenched in leadership positions currently at USAPA, history may be repeating itself!

Endorsement of Paul DiOrio for PHL Domicile Chairman by Woody Menear:
Trying times continue and will only intensify for the pilots of US Airways, including those based at the PHL Domicile.
We need dynamic thinkers, good listeners and confident decision makers responding to the various pressures exerted on USAPA, by management, APA and others who don’t always have our best interests at heart; even those entities who claim they do.
What we don’t need is a Chairman who is passive, accepting and gullible, even one who might be likeable enough. These next few months, perhaps the next couple of years, (depending upon the merger outcome) - will be literally pivotal for determining our working conditions. Our status as equals with original American pilots is very much in doubt, based on the current MOU.
Paul DiOrio has years of experience in negotiating the terms of our contract and he is intimately familiar with the nuances of that document, as well as the Green Book, should that become our working agreement, this knowledge will be very useful in his dealings on our behalf.
I endorse Paul DiOrio not because he is always a “nice guy”, although I personally like Paul. He is not a guy with whom I always agree. We need Paul DiOrio now, because he is a strong personality, who believes what he believes and can defend those positions in negotiations and debates.
Paul listens; he has listened to me and vice versa and we both have had our positions influenced by the other; THAT is a very good thing. Paul thinks for himself and yet is open to the ideas of others. He can be persuasive. These are traits that will come in handy in dealings with everyone, from his fellow Board members, to the Chief Pilots, as well as upper management.
My vote for PHL Chairman is Paul DiOrio and I hope we all will give Paul serious consideration.
Fraternally,
Woody Menear PHL 767
