Dec 2012 / Jan 2013 US Pilots Labor Discussion

The angry, emotional East majority have made it clear that they prefer LOA 93 to the Nicolau Award and a better contract.

You are in a union and you despise the majority?

It was a majority that stole pensions of pilots who had long since retired, it was a majority that agreed to park hundreds of planes over at Express and furlough nearly 2,000 pilots, all at any cost to just get a contract. Forgive the new majority for disagreeing with you.

I don't respect what the majority is trying to do.

Don't you have a vacuum cleaner saleman to attend to?

When I was flying the MD-30 out of PIT a couple decades ago, I can recall on many occasions walking into the crew room and seeing another lengthy, hand written letter on 8X12 legal paper crafted by our resident wordsmith Eddie H. His musings were always colorful and entertaining. Some days when I read a post from EastUS I think to myself 'nah...it couldn't be'.

Woody M has continued this fine tradition and in the age of internet his audience is surely larger. He makes good points and I enjoy reading his letters. But I don't necessarily arrive at the same conclusions.

In his latest contribution he says some things that make me chuckle. He takes umbrage at the company secretely negotiating our pay and work rules as though they are worthy of protecting. In fact, they suck and are the worst in the industry. The only direction to go from the bottom of the barrel is up.

He goes on to suggest we should delay this merger and use our leverage to get what we deserve. The sentiment is fine but the strategy - not so much.

Here's an alternative scenario, the merger goes through regardless of what USAPA threatens, management thumbs their nose at our Section 1 and says - sue me. Then we are the ones that go to court for X amount of years trying to win (like the PHX pilots) while the company takes Y amount of years trying not to lose - where X and/or Y represent large numbers.

I haven't decided yet, but a small voice is telling me that if we turn down a half decent MOU it will delay nothing. The merger will take place anyway and we will continue to work under LOA93 until we get another chance to vote on a JCBA about two years from now. BTW, the same voice is telling me the MOU will not address the seniority dispute. I hope we know for sure soon.

I believe Woody received a substantial settlement from the TSA some years ago. He may not mind staying on LOA93 till the cows come home. Most of the line grunts working here - not so much.

Its kinda funny that you think the majority of USAir pilots are angry, emotional pilots, and through that anger and emotion chose to vote in favor of LOA 93. Really, angry pilots voted in favor of LOA 93? You are trying to say Bill voted for LOA 93, and you didn't (if you are even a pilot rather than a poser).

Sounds like you are having a little memory lapse... LOA 93 passed because a majority of pilots exhibited an emotion... but it wasn't anger, it was fear, trepidation, and limpitis.

Now is your chance to regain some credibility.... did the company appeal or is the appellant court just making up dates for fun?
If only the east pilots had not been afraid and allowed US airways to go out of business.

The world be a much better place.

If you had only followed Woody's advice as he is suggesting now.

If USAPA only succeeds in gumming up the works of this merger (or making the threat to do so) – for say,18 months….well that is an eternity in the mergers and acquisitions world. It is also the sort of complication that makes Unsecured Creditors and Investment Bankers close their purses and go off looking for easier pickings.

So, if we make it more appetizing for Parker to do the Right Thing and pay up….well even he might find that a wise business decision. The point is, he won’t pay up, if he isn’t forced to do so.

No rational pilot wants to spoil this merger; it’s a potential win/win. However, for most of us at US Airways, this is our last chance to recoup a portion of the fiscal beating we have taken. We have made our contribution, we have leverage and we should use it; not to kill the company, or the deal, but to get an equal share of the pie.

If only you guys had the backbone to stand up to the company in 2005.

Talk about clueless and having no idea the position you are in. what did judge silver say? On dangerous ground.

BTW if Woody the nut is calling people irrational that want to stop the merger how far out are those people?

Well said. An accurate read on the situation at hand.

Aw, you're just sore because you showed your stupidity last night with the insipid comments you made while drinking.... You were drinking?

I appreciate that you are honest enough to allude to respecting the majorities that took the pensions of pilots that had no representation, furloughed nearly 2,000 pilots, and secured LOA 93 for the rest of us that voted no.

Not at all. I still haven't found the actual filing for the appeal. What you quoted was from USAPA Iron Compass and their words. You have the actual filing?

Oh, no. Somebody filed a court action without checking with you first. There should be a law.

More proof that you're a faker and lier, since all the documentation is on the USAPA website, just like it said it would be in the email.

You're even dumber than I thought.

Remember the USAPA update we recieved about the MOU, but has to go through a couple of hands, rewrites etc! My first question if that was a fabrication of the truth. Then this has visions of JACK BUTLER, and "YOU WILL GET TO VOTE ON YOUR PENSION ISSUE" all over it, ! Luv to see it , would also luv to see the CLEARY report on our COC and SCOPE, and why is that withheld? MM

I agree with that. But I also see that in this instance, it's really important that they get ALL the details straight before they make anything public. There are so many factions in the Pilot ranks, all of whom have an agenda, that clarity is more important than ever. I mean, just look at what has occurred so far. Even thought they have lost in every court available to them, the westies still insist that they are going to get the Nic. Pretty unbelievable. And pretty stupid.

What is even more clueless is yourself hired after 2000, and telling us WOODY is a nut, now who is on dangerous ground?Alot of us have not always agreed with WOODY, but at least he has experience in these matters unlike , some others, my bet it is all mute, HORTON has had DUI's number at every turn, he has paraded as a fool, the APA and the 2 other UNIONS used him also, in the end, (WHEN THE REAL"TEXAS" MONEY SHOWS UP!) DUI will be shown to the door only to be played for the DUI fool he is and his band of merrymen! MM!
