MidAtlantic is about to experience a major meltdown as Jetblue ramps up their E-190 program and raids the ranks of the experienced MDA pilots. A proactive approach by MDA/U management to improve the dismal pay and benefits might ward off a large exodus of pilots to the greener pastures of Jetblue, but if past history is any indication, management will do nothing and then be forced to deal with the resulting mess. MDA is nothing more than the testing/training ground for Jetblue.

Maybe that's why they are folding it back under the umbrella with US. Maybe there will be more furloughs from mainline and they will just flow to the Ejets instead of the retraining line..........

That exodus has already begun. There are already many USAirways people there now. We just lost two of our "MDA Standards" guys to their training department. These were two VERY talented individuals I might add.

Mike,

Just based on anecdotal stories like yours, it sounds like the exodus is pretty signigicant already. Can the training folks keep up with demand if the exodus gets worse?

Oh sure...its just very sad to see very good people throw in the towel. It just seems the company shrugs their shoulders and says "Oh well". (This place seems to chug along no matter what.)

Looks like the whole MDA staffing discussion is becoming moot with the press release jb-rocks posted.....

Looks like MDA will transfer a/c to Wexford Mgt in the near future. End of exodus? 😛

Bruce Lakefield told the MEC that he and Ed Bulbar discussed this issue before the ALPA meeting. When this issue came up for discussion, Lakefield indicated this would be addressed and with a lot of progress on the MDA contract we could see two changes to offset attrition.

MDA pilots receiving pay raises to offset not having their mainline longevity and/or mainline pilots having MDA bidding rights. Separately, LOA 93 permits EMB's to be flown by a participating wholly owned carrier. A likely candidate is Chautauqua.

Separately, it's my understanding MDA is overstaffed by 70 pilots.

Best regards,

Looks more like decimation of MidAtlantic division...... Did I read correctly, is Wexford to provide $125 million with the option of another $110 million if USAir were to sell the slots and 28 ERJ-170's?

.... "mainline pilots having MDA bidding rights" .......... How would this stop the mass exodus ? Why would a mainline pilot bid MDA with its substandard pay rates ? And for current MDA pilots, having more people pile on top of you at MDA pushing you lower in seniority only increases the desire to leave !

Overstaffed...or trained? I am no expert on this, but that is NOT the story I was told in the training dept. in CLT over the last 5 weeks. Anyone else? Greeter

Greeter:

I was told by an MDA Check Airman at Thursday's MEC meeting that MDA was overstaffed by 70 pilots.
