District 142 Update

If all US Airways employees worked for free (and I'm not suggesting they should) US Airways would make a heck of a profit. US Airways isn't asking the IAM to work for free. It is asking the IAM to take concessions in line with

1) market rates
2) what other groups have taken

What market? The market in a third world area.

For mechanic and related more information will be out some time tomorrow morning.

I don't know what you are smoking but you need to remove the rose colored glasses.

I don't know of any legacy airline that has tried to abolish 50% of the jobs of a particular work group.[maybe United]

SWA has become the industry leader and they pay their mechanics $38.00/hour [and they make a profit because their management knows how to operate an airline]
This is the market rate that all unions that represent mechanics should be fighting for.
UPS pays their mechanics $42.00/hour.

It is okay for you to convince yourself that USAir will be paying market rates after this round of concessions.

From The Hub:

US Airways announced today that the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has agreed to put out for separate ratification votes revised company proposals on new labor agreements for the mechanic and related, fleet service, and maintenance training specialist workgroups. The IAM has agreed to complete the ratification votes by Friday, Jan. 21, 2005.

IAM employees displaced by outsourcing will be offered existing and future fleet service positions

Are they SERIOUSLY going to offer M&R employees fleet service positions?

Well, IAM does stand for machinists, doesn't it?

Told you M&R would throw fleet under the bus!

Yes they do but in fact there are very fewâ€￾ Real Machinist" among the ranks. I am a “Real Machinistâ€￾ and how I was able to leave U without much difficulty. Funny thing in Pit: the "Real Machinists" are looked down upon by the good ole boys, especially the ones of years gone by. Whenever a "Real Machinist" tried leaving the machine shop and go out and obtain their A&P licenses the good ole boys club made sure every road block was thrown up, and Frank Schifano lead the charge, the other parties responsible have since retired. I don't think that down in CLT they treat their "Real Machinists" that way but accept them for the men they are. That was my personal gripe with the IAM local 1976, it was tainted by a minority. As it's turning out it doesn’t matter if ones has their A&P or not, only 30 plus years seniority matters, and maybe not even that. The IAM does represent many machine shops all over out the country and has for years, where "Real Machinists" live.

Good Luck whether you're “Real Machinistâ€￾ or not, because working at U requires all the luck you can muster.

Bye Bye my ex mechanic co-workers and "Real Machinistsâ€￾

Curt

A “Real Machinistâ€￾ and Mechanic

It is laughable that anyone employeed for U would even think that all the "settling" unions agreed to a t/a. U had each and everyone by the "privates". Wasn't their biggest subliminal message "we want you gone. To keep our executive salaries, we have to outsource as many of you as we can, so if we can give you a token gift to leave, we'll do it, otherwise we're going to run you to personal, financial, emotional ruin. But we're going to leave you hanging for as long as we can just for personal sport."

Told you M&R would throw fleet under the bus!

Why don't you wait till all the facts come out?

No M&R Employee will be able to displace, bump or have any adverse effect to any Fleet Service.

M&R employees will only be given preferential treatment of hiring of ANY unfilled position.

They will have zero seniority in the group and will only get seniority if and when they get hired and the Date of Hire will be the seniority date.

So please tell me how that is throwing someone under the bus?

When will you undersand M&R do not control what happens to fleet and you will see M&R actually got Fleet Money in this deal towards the ask.

Sounds like you are throwing the mechanics under the Bus.

Its funny how the IAM complained about how the TWU handled the seniority issue but now you are doing pretty much the same thing to your own mechanics. They are losing their seniority within the same company, within the same union.

They are going to the bottom even though as you admit, the mechanics got Fleet money. So what did the mechanics get in return?

Seems like the IAM is getting more like the TWU every day. I guess the fact that they lost 25% of their members has convinced the leadership to give up being a real union and going into business unionism like the TWU.

Details... They are in the mail!

Don't you love it, 2005, and we still have to wait for the pony express to get contract details! Lets see, IAM = pony express. Real union = members only section on website. IAM = ballots stuffed in a barrel, and wheeled out back to be counted by some knuckle dragger. Real union = phone/internet voting.

Works for me!
