I've heard Kay Bailey Hutchison mentioned as a dark horse VP pick. Lots of varied political experience, but I think the Obots would try to use the fact she's from Texas as a way of (inaccurately) tying her to Bush.
Without a doubt, the Obamessiah is a great orator..... regardless if he's reading his rehearsed speech from his teleprompter or from stone tablets.
Just remember that when you see the 11 point bounce in his polling numbers over the next few days, it's been that way since the 60's. The post convention bounce usually levels off when people start thinking about what they heard...
Normally there's also a bounce when the Veep pick gets named. That didn't happen with Biden. It will be interesting to see who McCain announces tomorrow or Saturday, and whether or not it manages to take some wind out of the post-DNC bounce.
Among the promises flowing from the Obamacropolis stage:
-Cut taxes for 95 percent of "working families" (and a tax increase on those already paying the most taxes).
-Make the nation energy independent in 10 years (2 years after a possible two Obama terms)
-Make hybrid cars more affordable
-"Retool" the fledgling auto industry and create 5 million new jobs in that sector.
-Spend $150 billion on renewable energy
-Give teachers more money
-Provide cheap college to anyone "commits to serving your community."
-Deliver “affordable, accessible health care for every American"
-Hand out paid sick days
-Provide Pension security and social security solvency
I kept waiting for lightning bolts to erupt from his fingertips....
Saying "what" he wants to change is great.
But none of his Sermon on the Mount covered "how" it was going to be funded.... With a questionable economy, taxing corporate profits sounds juicy, but most of us know when you tax corporations, it eventually trickles down to the consumer.
I'm a cynic when it comes to energy independence. Hybrid cars are great, but I'd like to see how he plans to have an airline, rail, or trucking industry.
It's going to be an interesting eight weeks. Fortunately, I'll be on the road for a lot of it...
