Dump Alpa?

quote=UseYourHead,May 16 2005, 09:54 AM]
Okay,

"So what has ALPA done lately to stop the degredation of the Pilot profession? That is your answer, support, advice, and other services the same thing it did during the good times that resulted in the decades of gains we all benefited from."

Attempts have been made with no results, therefore nothing has been done. I am not saying dump alpa, but maybe there should be a leadership change. The gains in the previous eras were the direct result of pilots at all airlines sticking together and supporting each other. This team concept starts at the leadership position, which is sorely lacking. There is no vision for the future.

Okay,

I would not argue with that; in fact, it is one good thing about the structure of ALPA. That is something that can and at some point will change.

Good luck to all of us.

I know at US Airways, ALPA International has expended an enormous amount of support in these ways (unfortunately some of it was blown off by angry, irrationational representitives resulting in a worse contract than the intial offer).

What's irrational is some ALPA advisors and consultants getting paid million dollar plus success fees for delivering an approved concessionary agreement to airline management. I don't care if that's the way it's always been or not, it's definitely a conflict of interest that rewards ALPA "advisors" at the pilot group's expense.

Face it, US Airways pilots have had a very weak pilot group since the previous mergers, and that combined with weak and divided union leadership, has guaranteed getting the short end of the stick every single time.

Why doesn't ALPA set up a retirement system for all union members? My dad still draws a pension from the UMWA. I'd pay a little higher dues for that. At least the company couldn't take it away at a later date. Just wondering.

Keep one thing in mind when the talk turns to dumping ALPA. The question one should ask is, what would management want?

I'm always amazed that when management comes after the workers with a baseball bat, people for some reason blame the union.

Maybe because the MEC effectively acts as the bat boys? (At least at USAirways)

Heaven help AWA APLA if any of the" RC4" dudes at U S airways get their claws on ya. Ask Bud if he was for them.
