East vs. West

Nobody should dispute what US Air's history is and the employees that got it there. America West also has a history, with great people that started the company and a spirit within that kept the company alive. Both companies have exciting histories for those that lived it. The difference? America West was created post de-regulation as a "low far" airline competing head on with Southwest Airlines for over 20 years in the same hub and has survived. It is with that strategy that was needed to keep US Airways alive. Nobody saved anybody, but both parties together needed to happen no matter who likes it or who doesn't.

Thank God for Pineybob!
know as the "Best in the Business" and US Air was was approached by other major airlines to train their pilots. a Very Proud USAir/PHL employee

I guess when you got the airbus you were still the best train pilots in the world then how come USAir had the worst bust rate on check rides on the plane and went recruiting at a little ole regional to steal there instructors back then would you care to guess. OK I will stop laughing it was AWA.WOW can you just feel the love. I know it stings a little but time will heal your pompus arse

It's like comparing apples with oranges. We've been a major player for decades. AWA is not just dealing with WN anymore. It's time for AWA to think like a major play. We need to keep our own identity and our own quality product. That is what seperates the men from the boys.

You go Prop!!!!

Thank's REACC1

You poor pathetic thing...I think your disdain for USAir has to do with the fact that they overlooked your resume....not quite up to our standards. If I were you, I would get my facts straight before spewing your crap all over this website.

Was it worth it for all your furloughees to be at Uair then? Was being a UAir pilot THAT great? I don't think so and you seem to be confusing disdain with facts. UAL is a real airline, even to this day. Same goes for DAL, NWA and AMR. I would have taken UAir had I bothered to apply because it would have been a great stepping stone that would have paid more than AWA while there. But make no mistake - UAir had no more longevity than a lot of the other regionals and a pilot only went there for one obvious reason: to get on with UAL, NWAC, AMR or DAL. A couple of pilots left AWA to go to UAir believing there was some stability there. That was a very bad mistake and you didn't need the help of hindsight to see that coming. I don't fault the guys at all for going to AMR, UAL, NWA or DAL. But Uair? UAir never really was a career. It paid well if you didn't get furloughed, but anybody who stayed thinking it would get better made a huge mistake. The name of the game pre-911 was to get on with one of the big four, period. Any pilot who thought it was ok to settle for less didn't understand the business.

I had all my apps in with the big ones, and then 911 happened. Doug got the ATSB loans, we got a payraise...things were good. It's worked out well for all the AWA pilots just as it's worked out well for half of the Uair pilots (the top half, that is). For the rest, it has royally sucked. So please spare us the "best of the best of the best" crap. You insult your own furloughees.

And one more thing I forgot to mention...I had an early retiree in my Learjet class from UAir. He was a 737 guy and his honesty was very refreshing. No BS from him and it turns out he was very prescient as to UAir's future. His message was very clear: one of the big four or nothing. I guess that is another reason that I totally had written off Crystal City. Nothing against them, but why bother when there are plenty of other regionals that were more convenient?

Entitled attitude?

Guess you have no clue of what East employees have done to save this company.

Back in 1992 everyone took concessions to keep the place in business.

Through two bankruptcies employees took three rounds of concessions and the loss of pensions and many jobs to keep the company in business.

I could keep going on and on, but you have no idea of what you speak about and your name says is all, RETIREE, you have no cohorts out there, you are gone.

,,,and so are you..sucking at the IAM teet.

Scofield, Wolf, Siegel = two bankruptcies and one very near liquidation.

East employees...the same.

Doug and AWA come along = profits.

Uh,you should go watch the pilot and f/a videos on the hub.Doug explains to them that AWA was real close to fileing for relief also. The merger brought together 2 carriers that needed help.I wont go into were the profit came from. But you need to do your homework before playing almighty.

And as for pilots and there ego's,the first plane was built before it was flown,It takes alot more thaan you just jumping into the seat to make a sorte happen remember that youll feel better.

Were all proud of what we do,I like fix'n em.Its fun.

What we all need is what WN has, belief in what were doing.
And then the pride and training will show and we will sore.. But or leadership needs to get onboard with the rest of us and do the right thing.

Total BS. Why is it then that I make more than an East f/o 20 years older?

Cause you aint felt the sting yet.

This total BS, where have you been buffalo....anyone that says management hasn't listened to employee at US Airways under the merger, is grossly mistaken.
The trainers and their management did not listen to the agents during SHARES training, or act when told of the shortcomings of SHARES

We all know management reads these boards right? Well, I'm sure they are getting a real chuckle with their feet propped up on the desk reading this one. Honestly, what the hell is the point of all of this?
