"Easties" out West

Again, without knowing your contract, that sounds like possibly interrupting your contractual rest period.....

Jim
You would think so. It doesn't say that anywhere in the contract, but I'll look into it. It's only a paragraph long. Like I said the contract is vague.

Admittedly, we pilots have the FAR's to fall back on. The key would be if the contract defined a rest period as "free of duty" or something like that. Getting an assignment from scheduling isn't "free of duty".

Our East contract (pilots) follows the FAR's - 9:15 actual minimum (more in some situations to compensate for a reduced rest period). If scheduling calls 9:00 after the rest period starts, the 9:15 clock starts all over again.

I am a east flight attendant now on the west. Scheduling here is not the same as the east. Tagging is a joke. Hot room(OPR) can be extended for 10 hours in a day. If you are on duty stand-by from 7am until 7pm, scheduling can call you at 6:45pm and assign you a red eye that night. Even though you were on duty since 7am. I only have to do reserve until the intergration is complete, then I will get my date of hire and hold a block. The crews here are great and fun to work with. They have loads of questions for us easties and can't believe how much better scheduling is on the east.

Some crew still think that America West bought us. Which creates some conflict. There is some friction between the crews.

Who the he11 cares if anyone bought anyone. We are in this together and need to unite against management to get the contract we all deserve. Who cares whom says what. Just build a bridge and get over it, unite and fight for what we ALL deserve. It is not West and East it is WE!!!

THANK YOU!!! Yes, we need to change A LOT of things in the new contract. Auto'ing is one of them. The east needs the west vacation and the west needs the east pay ... and that is just the start. Together we can fight and get it. At the meer mention of CHAOS our stock will drop so fast the executives will have to give us what we want. Where is our union??????
Agreed! We need to become prepared (mentally) for a fight. Supporting our union, picketing, whatever it may be, all while maintaining our professionalism. We should all be sickened by the pace of negotiations. This is our career, not something that can be put on the back burner indefinitely. While I realize that a quarterly profit does not necessarily mean we are "out of the woods," we still cannot lose sight of the fact that our pay, benefits, and work rules are the absolute worst in the industry. Work me as hard as Southwest, fly me as hard as Southwest, I'm ready. I'll do it with a big smile. But show me the money. And benefits. Aren't we worth it? Oh yah, and let's start having people arrive with their luggage. Yes? No?

Thank you.

ummm....schedulers don't write the contract in PHX, do they?
No but from what I am told they sure do interpret any way they like. It would be nice to see them out on the line being flung all over the place and then get tagged after a 9 hour overnight and an already 11 or 12 hour day. Also hula did you mean that the schedulers out West do not have a union? Does that possibly mean that once SOC/OCC are merged that they could be done away with? Well at least the jerks that like to jack people around.

Tell that to the westies...

And AMEN to that!!

Do you serve 1/2 the mini or the whole mini?

Just like most westies I dump the whole dam(n) thing in the drink. What does that matter, why attack a policy that I am required to follow? I do the best I can with what I am given. The sooner we realize that we need to drop this bu11shit and start working together, the sooner we can scare the he11 out of management by forming a united front and fighting them for what WE ALL deserve.

The 1/2 mini, whole mini issue is huge...please remember that the ones most concerned with this are alcoholics. The difference between 1/2 a mini and a whole mini could be the one that decides whether or not they beat their wife or kick their kids when they get home.

Exactly. I am not into being "militant," but will do what i have to do. Hey, can we get something like bagtags or something, from AFA to let US mgmt know that we support each other? Nothing rude or negative, just something we can have that shows unity. Any suggestions on a tag line? It's going to be a fight, I'm afraid.....but I'm not afraid to engage in it!

Outraged yet?
