My mom is trvling ED 20 on US east internationally on Tue 5 Sept. My question is can she upgrade? If she can, where does she purchase it and does she talk to the tkt counter or gate agent about listing for it? She's very sweet and does not want to be a bother to anyone. She would like to know how it works so she doesnt cause anyone to get upset or add any stress to their job. Any help would be appreciated.

GOEnvoy seats are $500 and can be done 30 hours in advance thru rez or at the airport. Booked in (used to be R, but changed to J now I think?) If she is on a 757 it was $250 to get the first two rows, but its mainly a coach service with the larger seat.

She has to purchase regular rev upgrade because she is considered regular rev pax with a ED20

Thanx John. I know that its not HP and having said that we were always allowed to use our flexis to upgrade even on positive space. Just another way for us to use our "flexis". Its these things that make us long for premerger rules. The worst part is not knowing the rules and thinking we do! I guess we're all still learning. You guys are great for giving the best info!

Is it possible to be flying on an ED20 ticket and "stand by" for the upgrade using the non-rev upgrade -- which, IIRC, is considerable less than $500? ($100 for employees, don't know for sure about parents...)

From the HUB:
The ED20 is not combinable with any other discounts and/or passenger types, such as AARP, senior, children, infant, military, airpass, nonrevenue upgrades.

Dividend Miles can be earned for travel with ED20 tickets.
Revenue upgrades such as Dividend Miles upgrades can be used

And just what were HP's pre-merger rules for transatlantic upgrades? 😛

(Sorry, couldn't resist...just teasing though, not trying to stir the pot.)

Just another reason that DL doesn't need US messing up our travel benefits...
