Wherever.
I just heard from someone that Flight 2800 made an emergency landing in Mojave desert yesterday, and the PAX were bussed to Las Vegas? Anyone else able to confirm this? I'm not at work right now.

The passengers must have thought they were in a hub when they saw all the Metrojet and US Airways planes parked there!

Wow! That information you two posted helped me find this.. a little bit more about the incident. I'm glad everyone is okay besides a few minor delays.

VICTORVILLE — When the stench of smoke filled the cockpit, the crew of a commercial flight bound for Las Vegas had to make an emergency landing at Southern California Logistics Airport late Friday night with 41 passengers in tow.
It seems “Lady Luck†was on their side, as no one was injured.
“As far as any emergency landing of that nature ... that’s the first time it ever happened, to my knowledge,†said SCLA Director Peter Soderquist.
Flight 2800 took off as scheduled from the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank at 9:28 p.m. Thursday. The airliner is operated by Phoenix-based Mesa Airlines, a contract carrier for U.S. Airways, flight records show.
While the intended trip to Vegas usually lasts just 33 minutes, 28 minutes into this flight the pilots knew something had gone wrong, said Mesa Airlines CEO John Ornstein.
“The crew started to smell a burning odor ... there was no
fire, so they contacted flight attendants to see if they saw or smelled anything,†said Vice President of Safety for Mesa Airlines Eric Gust. “They started to see a bit of haze and they declared an emergency and landed at the nearest suitable airport, which in this case was Victorville.â€
Control tower workers were notified, as were firefighters at Victorville’s Station 319 at SCLA, said Captain Pete Lawson.
“We had about 5 minutes or so to prepare, which is actually a long time for us. It gives us time for engines from town to get there,†Lawson said, adding that there were seven firefighters, three aircraft rescue firefighting trucks and one fire engine, prepared to handle the worst. “That’s what we’re trained for.â€
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Victorville station also sent one patrol unit to the airport, as routine updates from the Aviation Division let them know the plane had landed safely, said Karen Hunt, spokeswoman for the station.
Upon arrival, passengers were able to exit the plane via the stairs as usual, and Lawson said that rescue slides were not used.
“I can understand why the people were a little bit uncomfortable, getting stuck halfway there and being so close. Besides, nobody wants to land and have firetrucks following you as you land.â€
Once all the passengers were safe, Lawson’s team boarded the plane and still smelled smoke, but ruled out any fire. The FAA and the NTSB were notified, and Gust said it was later determined that a lightbulb in the entrance area had burned out. Since the lightbulb was not integral to the plane’s operation, it was shut off and pilots flew the plane back to Phoenix on Friday morning, Gust said.
As for the passengers, they were shuttled to the airport’s ter minal sometime before 11 p.m. Thursday and were told to wait until other arrangements were made, Soderquist said.

“I was impressed by the attitude. Nobody was excessively annoyed, and they took it in stride. I was really proud of them,†Soderquist said.
A short time later, Mesa Airlines arranged for a bus to drive the travelers to Las Vegas. It is unclear what time the bus made it to Sin City.
“Once they arrived we had hotel vouchers for them,†Gust said. “From the sound of it the customers were very happy with how they were treated and from what I heard this morning we didn’t have any complaints.â€
The crew of the Mesa Airlines flight stayed at various hotels in Victorville over night, Ornstein said.

I would be happy if I were on that flight, too. It means I could add VCV to my airports-visited list at no cost.

By the way...

Upon arrival, passengers were able to exit the plane via the stairs as usual, and Lawson said that rescue slides were not used.

do RJ's have slides? I thought they didn't. Maybe that's why slides weren't used.

Snore, we thought it was an actual US flight. I'm surprised Mesa didn't rent bicycles for them to pedal to Vegas.

No RJs do not have slides. In fact CRJs have air stairs built imto the door. Slides are only required if your a certain amount of feet off the ground. The E170/190 family has slides but you cant really call that an RJ.

Well, the flight number in itself says it's a codeshare, if you noticed that why did you even bother posting if you find it boring? Please, it's great when people have something constructive to add but to bring in their personal dislikes into something... anyway, forget about it. This wasn't a "what's your opinion about Mesa airlines" or a "what do you think about CRJs" thread.. it was "did something really happen to a flight the other night" thread.. someone gave me a specific flight number and I didn't find anything in the news about it right away.

Whether I want to think or make believe that CRJS have evacuation slides doesnt make any difference, they simply dont. Someone asked, I answered because I'm a know it all when it comes to these things.

Hey didnt you open a thread specifically for b***hing and crying? Maybe you should go there.

Your comment "Snore, we thought it was an actual US flight." has no relevance to this topic. Why bring it up? And why don't you go post in the bitching and moaning thread? Get some gripes off your chest.. go blame dougie for the airlines problem and stuff like that.. I'm sure he caused every single one of our problems himself.

No he had help..hired help theres Al..etc...etc...
Sigh, to be honest.. maybe I am a little embarrassed of our management up there. The fact he got drunk and went to jail just really made me feel like this airline was a joke. I worked for Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis before I moved here. Even they knew how to control themselves there. We had offsite meetings, they'd get drunk, but they wouldn't drive afterwards.

Who knows, maybe there will be some management change in the near future.. if the board (of chairmen) feels like Dougie is to blame for our problems.

Yep.. we got monthly beer rations. 2 per month. (beer tickets)

Also.. they changed the free beer to stuff like "free pepsi, juice, water" in the stocked refrigerators on every corner of the building.. lol.

Yeah, it was awesome working there.. treated very well.. my boss actually cared about me and the other employees there. Not many people I know at work on his level would take time out of their day to go to my dad's funeral 45 miles out of their way.
