Flight Cuts

I heard this from a manager in PHL today , first all management personnell will be given a 10 % paycut.Next the cities with the heaviest flight cuts will be MCO and LAS.PIT will lose all direct service to all Florida cities. This is supposed to be announced at the shareholders meeting this week.We know something is coming the question is where and how much.
Just found out that some managers and supervisors took the 10% pay cut a few months ago. Why are we always the last to know? Yet CHQ keeps sending out the emails/newsletters that we are in a good position and our cash reserve is fine.

Are the cuts supposed to be in addition to those already planned or futher cuts? We've already lost 1 CLT and 1 PHL flight this month, losing another DCA, PHX, LAS flight in August. They're also cutting back a lot of Sat night flights. Our last dept will be at 515pm. Looks like morning/mids for everyone on Sat. Good night to plan a night out!

PBI lost 1 PHL CLT PIT flight...DCA is being reduced to E170/175 flying and we lost our 630A flight to CLT 🙁 Now most customers cannot connect to the Carib Bank.

One would imagine this would be the end of service to ISP. They are using a combination of DH8 and CRJ, but if I read the schedules correctly, most weekdays have only 3 flights, from a high of 7 back when......and I think connections are difficult.

Oh well......I never thought I would say the big brown bus may be an option at some point .......

My BEST to you all...

QUIT Whining Art! Drive to LaGuardia or Kennedy and ride these Mesa CRJs to CLT.

The Tempe, Ariz.-based airline said it expects to cut domestic capacity 9 percent in the fourth quarter and another 9 percent in 2009. Word of the cutbacks, a response to escalating fuel costs, came at US Airways' annual shareholder meeting.

Another article claims it is an industry cut of 9% not US Airways. I wonder which is true?

US Airways Group Inc. expects the U.S. airline industry to cut capacity 9 percent in the fourth quarter and 9 percent more next year because of escalating fuel costs.

If I remember correctly, he said 9 percent industrywide, and LCC was cutting 2-4 percent in Q4. There were no numbers for next year, just that some capacity cuts were anticipated.

Not only can one not connect to the caribbean, but you miss the opportunity to hop on the morning flights to the West Coast! Now you need to go to FLL.

so...usair is going to pull down 18% domestic capacity cumulatively?
that represents more of a reduction than any other us carrier has announced thus far.
you'd think the tempe brain trust would be proactive in clarifying these disparate news stories...then again, that would require them to have an ounce of concern about their employees...

just means more flying for every express partner.

too bad MDA isn't around and Piedmont/PSA have no more planes on order... so guess US's profits are going straight to Mesa & Republic!

Those are INDUSTRY WIDE numbers, not LCC numbers.

The flight and personnel reductions across the entire US aviation industry are harsh to say the least. My guess is that US Airways will soon announce an 8% to 9% reduction in service across the board, with about 1200 personnel cuts to match the service reductions. As we saw after 9/11, I would suspect that most of the service reductions will come from the elimination of flight departures after 10:00PM in the hubs, and the permanent loss of service to smaller communities that are currently served by US Airways Express affiliates.
Think about it, for over 2 years the company has put off the decision to purchase a new fleet type for Piedmont to fly to smaller cities, and they have let Air Midwest, Colgan, and Trans States assume an ever increasing amount of risk in serving incrementally profitable routes. Even though turboprops such as the SAAB 340, Dash-8, and Beech 1900 are more efficient to operate than 50 seat RJ's, and they provide important feed to the hubs, it appears that they will eventually go away.

Don't you mean "hot dog!"
