I'm not wrong. You are wrong. I'm not saying that what you're saying wouldn't be nice and what not but it's simply not going to happen.
You are looking for a socialist welfare state. Our Constitution makes that very difficult to achieve. This country can not enact major social change quickly because of the enormous, intentional difficulty of amending the Constitution. Socialist Welfare states don't have things like the right to bear arms, freedom of speech, assembly, etc. that are as iron-clad as they are in the United States. Enacting social change of this magnitude would require many rights to be done away with or at least suspended for an extended period of time in order to quash any opposition that might pop up. You see, large governments don't like people opposing them. Our country guarantees many rights that make change difficult to achieve.
Perhaps you should stage a Constitutional Convention and attempt to overthrow the government.
There is still a sizable number of people who do NOT have cars nor do they need them. Driving is a luxury. Anyone can lead a car-free life if they're committed to it. I've made is abundantly clear that I'm not.
No I am not looking for a socialist welfare state. However I am looking for a state where the playing fields are more even between the rich and poor. Why would making sure that people have available jobs that one can make a living and secure basic needs result in taking away anyone's rights? In some parts of the country driving is a luxury but in most states it is not a luxury. Driving should be a luxury if we could get some of our tax dollars directed toward expanding our public transit system. How can you expect people who live in rural or suburban Ohio (just an example) to use a public transit system that is basically non existent? There are very few cities in our nation where public transportation infrastructure is addequate enough for people do depend on getting to work. I would love to park my car, that would save me hundreds a month on expenses but it would not be possible for me to get to work. There are no buses that come near my home. If we had a better transit system (which would create jobs building and operating it) then think of the money people who do not make much over minimum wage could have to spend on things they need or want which would create more jobs. Transportation and health care are high on my list of things I am looking for in my local and national leaders. I believe that there is a growing movement of people in our country who are not happy with the status quo anymore and they want something done. They are tired of the lip service that our politicians are giving us and if they vote for Obama and he does not deliver they will look for some other way to make their concerns heard. There is a grass roots change happening in our nation and the have nots are getting fed up. Once the genie is out of the bottle and the masses see that they have power in numbers I do not believe anyone will be able to put the genie back into the bottle. As always this is just my opinion.
