Getting Ugly In Phl

It seems regardless of how the situation was approached, the HP folks would have received much the same response. Perhaps a management of jerks has simply cultivated, in their own image, a work group of the same.

Just curious if the normal response in PHL when someone says, "hello or good morning" is F*$% O^# ???
Still also waiting on an answer regarding anyone from IAM (local or national) contacting Doug since the 27th of Sept when THIS management team came on property? I had heard that the HP team scouting PHL before this date was shown only certain things and allowed to talk to certain people only. Since the regime has changed up top, anyone tried to communicate directly to them again with facts and figures? And if AC is still the "go to guy", all you need to do is CC- Doug and anyone else at HP that you think might get a clue with some of this information. If AC has been keeping things hidden in the past, a CC would definitely take care of that problem.

Conspiracy theory #99

If things don't go so well, guess who the fall guy is gonna be?

Management? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Well, only an out-of-towner would say "Hello" or "Good Morning". Maybe a Canadian or something.

I nod, wave and when its quite enough on the ramp say, "hey" in PHL on walkarounds all the time. I always get a hey or wave back. PHL people are fine and this thread is a bunch of usless crybaby crap. I had a 10 minute chat with a PHL ramper on Saturday (while we waited for the airplane to undload) and he was friendly. And why does it take LCC so long to load and unload airplanes? Some of the guys look like "Coolio", but so what? I wish I could dress how I wanted or still had enough hair to have cornrows.

The only problem with PHL is the ATC situation and that causes doodoo to roll down hill. Bags get lost, flights are late, the ramp gets congested, etc.

Having lived and worked in the PHL area most of my life I have to add my 2 cents.

1. PHL has a reputation for being a union town and the members aren't shy when it come to vocalizing their opinions. Nor should they be.

2. Having traveled around quite a bit, PHL folks are as friendly as anyplace else. They are also as helpful as any.

The difference IMO is that when challenged they are quick to overheat and slow to cool off and when it comes to surly and rude when angry they are frankly just better at it than other areas of the world. They also tend to have an elephants memory of slights real or imagined. Why do you think you still see posts regarding the events of 1992?

How YOU approach them determines which PHL you see. Remember this is a city whose sports fans booed Santa Claus. Best way to describe what I mean is to relate a story that happened. Buddy of mine hits this guy in a bar. Turns out he broke the guys jaw. I asked "Why did you do that" He replied, "Because he called my sister a slut, which she is, but he can't say that".

When I hear the stories about the ramp I instantly believe them. In my mind I've no doubt that the HP Trainer was spit on and threatened and I'll also bet money it happened AFTER the rampers were talked to in a condescending manner and decided to show the newbies just who was running the show.

So my advice to the Management lurkers is this: Learn to work with it and around it because it isn't going to change anytime soon. The west coast touchy feely crap will be viewed as exactly that, CRAP!

I lived and worked in the philly area as well, and Piney you are correct on MOST points....I disagree when you say Phl folks are as friendly as anywhere else....  Also remember this is the same place that literally chased IAM bigwigs out of an update on contract concess....er, I mean negotiations, a few years back!!!...Now that....I liked.....

Go West Young Man Go West, Entrepreneurs, western artists and writers, gold miners, military men, and pioneers, all sought the opportunities of the west. Thriving on dreams, west they came. Promoted by western artists, writers and wild west shows of the time, the west continues to be glamorized by Western Artists works and in western movies even today

Seldom were mentioned the hardships of the climate, the isolation or the lack of conveniences seen in the populated states back East. The West tested the courage and strength of every man, woman and child with only the strong surviving

you easterner wont last out here we walk the streets with our gun on our side 110+ deg and say hi to strangers

You don't seem to get it. The HP sup's WERE sent home. BTW, no insubordination by fleet service.

Im sorry, i cannot sit here and read this. No insubordination by fleet service? Are you kidding? Spitting, threatening the lives of the employees and their families? I think that this incident has been sugar coated. There is more to this story than most of you think or seem to know. The HP sups were NOT sent home, HP brought them home due to the circumstances that occured.
