A sad note to report here in CLT. 2 of our union brothers suffered deaths in their personal families. 1 of our brothers was recently retired, and was set to spend some quality time with his wife. She just died this past week. Our other brother just lost his son in a tragic car accicent. Our Prayers are certainly extended to both of them and their grieving families.
Now heres the part that really makes my blood boil....   The LOCAL UNION

I'm lost on why you're upset with the Local Union on this. The loss is tagic and we all feel for the people involved, but what is your point...?

The Local Union does not furnish flowers or a Bible any more. the Local Lodge claims that they being fiscally responsible. They also claim that with the fight against U, all monies must be focussed on that fight.
What a CROCK! How much can a simple arrangement cost? Something to say that we are there for them in their time of sorrow? 20 or 30 bucks tops? Its 1 thing to be screwed by the company, but then to turn around and get #### slapped by the very union we have paid our dues to is too much!
I am a PROUD union member, but today I am ashamed of my Local union, for using these already trying times to screw their loyal members when they need them most.

I do understand your concern and I'm sure it was voted on at a meeting. I'd agree it is a nice gesture {bible , no flowers}, but I do understand the cost factors involved. Yes, we do pay dues, but only a small portion of that goes to the Local.

Lately, if something does happen, many employees just pitch in and send something.

My sympathy and prayers to these families.
I certainly understand your anger.

Years of service and they aren't deemed worthy of a simple floral arrangement and card?

Good God, I think I'm beginning to understand just how amoral your union is.

Is this the concessions you give to the union now? When and what will they want next round?

Since the local union only gets like $2 from a most of the members after the international and district get their cut, the Local 1725 was operating in the red, losing money.

Steps had to be taken to curb expenses or the local would be forced to shut it doors. Local 1725 has lost hundreds if not around 1,000 members.

And it cost $50 to $60 per member to send flowers and that is not the only thing expense wise that was cut.

If anything its an irresponsible act on the part of your Local. Perhaps they just have not given it to them yet. We normally sent flowers and gave the Bible a short time later.

I was the Treasurer of TWU Local 562 and I used to purchase the Bibles and Korans for our Local. They are not that expensive, around $35 if I rember correctly.

It would be interesting to find out if this was a neccessary cutback in the Locals expenses. Have a good look at the financial report at your next meeting to see if they could have cut other things. Carefully scrutinize the "Other Expenes" catagory and also expense accounts for Union business, and office expense.

I doubt that this issue would have been voted on at a meeting unless it was written into your bylaws, even then the motion may have been to approve a new budget where the cuts were included, regardless, its a stupid move on the part of your leadersip, how much could it have cost them?

This Ladies & gentleman is why I do NOT work union. I have enough trouble with the concept of making the Government and company rich off of my efforts. I certainly don't have enough left to give the Robert Roachs of the world a cut. If a local can't scrounge up $60, I would argue that the bankruptcy isn't financial it's moral.

Bob... Bob... Bob....
Get a life... move on... no one here cares who or what you have trouble with.

The heck with all this BS. God bless this family. I had lost my father 5 years ago this wednesday. All this conversation is bulls***. Be quiet and think of the families.

End the thread with God bless and be well..

What a bunch of bull! When you take out the humane element as to why our Union was formed, you are left with nothing but a cold heartless shell. It mirrors the very predator that U has become. It is displayed everyday in the way U treats its very own labor force.
As for $50 to $60 dollars per member. I indicated in an earlier post that a simple $20 dollar arrangement could be arranged, just so the member who lost a loved one would know that our thoughts and prayers were with them during their tragic loss. Every member does not experience a loss as great as losing a family member, but those that unfortunately do, are entitled to the respect from their brothers and sisters who make up the LOCAL and deserve a small token of condolence

I actually have some experience in this area. In early 2003 I had surgery. Three weeks later a fruit basket was delivered. My son accepted it at the door and put it in the kitchen. That evening my wife was going through it. At least 2/3 of the fruit was so bruised she ended up throwing it away. What we had left after two days was not fit to eat. I was later told that the fruit baskets delivered to members in Charlotte (at least at that time) were made by a union member's spouse. Who knows how much the person received making up the basket, but we certainly didn't benefit.

I know it's the thought that counts, but we would have been better off with just a card.

They were NEVER made by a member's spouse, they come from Oakhurst Florists, no relation to anyone employed at US Airways nor any relation to any IAM member.

Why do you post false information?
