The Republicans running on a repeal platform will be like running on a platform to repeal medicare and social security. Once people realize what they have gained in this bill, they will not want it taken away.
Well I don't know of ANY situation that takes diecisions out of the hand of the people and puts them in the hands of a Government drone can be viewed as a gain.
Which is not really my point.
The majority of the voters according to the polls I've seen DON'T want what's on the table currently
What happens if it comes out that there was all manner of shenigans and back room deals to secure the required votes?
I think we are due for a wholesale turnover in Congress and frankly I don't think certain Republicans will be immune from the wrath of the voters. This whole bill and underlying political side show has left a certain stench to it.
I think the voters have had enough. We have a grass routes "Tea Party" movement that has some traction and that usually isn't a good thing if you occupy office at the time.
Depending upon what transpires over then next few months leading up to the 2010 elections may well determine the future of this country. This is serious stuff as we are on the verge of losing our bond rating as the debt ballons to a nearly unsustainable level. The health care legislation may well determine whether we drift towards a country with a marginal tax rate close to 60 % or a country with a far lower marginal tax rate. near our current 39%.
There is a lot of information out there on the effect of debt and rates of taxation. Most of them agree when the marginal tax rate rises above 55%, things like unemployment rise, economic growth can stagnate. We are under this regime heading for an economic "moment of clarity" where it becomes clear to the man on the street that we are over taxed & over leveraged debt wise and something has to give.
