Did the new service get off to a good start? I hope for everyone's sake, that they are layovers, versus turns, so you can enjoy a nice layover.

The planes are having alot of HF radio problems, the same plane that did the air turn back saturday has been broke down in hnl sence yesterday they sent techs on this mornings flight. the maui flight had to stop in hnl to pick up the pasengers. Maybe Doug needs to start looking for some other options these planes are old some wide bodies would be nice to have for these flights the 757's are restricted to 170 passengers.

US East should let US west borrow 'Christine' (aka N600AU). They can keep it as a spare aircraft in HNL. As well as spare parts for her sister 757's flying to the islands.

The loads have been FULL. (We've been sending people over to HA and other airlines due to weight restrictions...) There isn't quite the concern with an island hop.

And now I'm curious...what's the story (or stories) behind East's Christine???

US/EAST plane US/east CREW and ground workers, can of worms

The loads of out Maui the first day was around 40 people and the second day was not much better.

so US east cant operate a flight with a 767-200ER ?
dogie better in source this problem, or it could cost more outsourcing it than insourcing it

Mostly you have to take them over before you can bring them back. The Euro service starts the same way when the seasonal returns.

You would need the A/C to be able to do it. If anything, there aren't enough on the East Side to cover what they are supposed to.

Back when we flew the 747's we had our own Christine! Something always broke or fell off. We also had one called Patches because thats what it looked like up close, and Ashes , it was the old KLM plane that lost 3 engines midflight due to flying too close to the Redoubt volcano in Alaska.

I dont know about anyone else but all of us in LAS new this wasnt going to go good. Our 757s suck. They are old and they break alot. And now they are being weight restricted to 170 pax but our bright company is still selling tix for up to 200 pax go figure. Lets just give everyone free money!! If you wanna get a FTA book a Flt to HNL and become a volunteer youll sure make out in the end. I wanna know who the idiot was who thought umm lets fly the 757s over there but not look to see if there would be a weight problem, cant wait til summer, LOL!!

Ok, 'CHRISTINE' as we US East folks call her was originally deliverered to EAL. It was the 2nd 757 to leave Boeing's assembly line (ship No.1 now belongs to NASA IIRC). Like all the other eastern 57's, she sat in the desert for quite some time after EAL shut down. USair aquired the a/c along with 10 other eastern 57's in the early 90's. I have worked on christine quite a few years now and it is my opinion that 'she' decicides when where and how she'll fly(operate)!! Theres never a dull moment when you see her taxi up to the gate or if you work nights, the hangar  . Ask any 57 pilot or mechanic about her and you'll get a smile and a earfull of stories!

All I know is that Sunday's OGG debacle began when routing put infamous 908 into the schedule (aka Cardinals). Frankly, any plane that can't stand on its own legs in the hangar is one I'll avoid at all costs. I've even told my mother she is to politely decline her non-rev seat and request relisting on the next flight if Big Red pulls into the gate. Then these same geniuses put 908 back to HI on Monday. Hey, if she didn't want to go the first time, why not give her a second chance?

And you would think that a plane would surely want to go to HI. I know I would...
