How is the New Hawaii Service Going?

All I know is that Sunday's OGG debacle began when routing put infamous 908 into the schedule (aka Cardinals). Frankly, any plane that can't stand on its own legs in the hangar is one I'll avoid at all costs. I've even told my mother she is to politely decline her non-rev seat and request relisting on the next flight if Big Red pulls into the gate. Then these same geniuses put 908 back to HI on Monday. Hey, if she didn't want to go the first time, why not give her a second chance?

And you would think that a plane would surely want to go to HI. I know I would...

Are you saying that it isn't airworthy?

I'm just saying that I feel uncomfortable boarding a plane that can't stand on it's own wheels in the hangar. That's all
I think 908AW also chopped a guy at Dee howard in half in the T/R's, maybe that was 907??..

Maybe it has something to do with only having 3 a/c that are etops at the time. 901 is comming out of goodyear they have been doing the etops mod during the c-check but are having trouble getting it out. that will bring us up to 4 etops planes and 1 more will head to goodyear for the mods.

its not the planes fault that someone put the gear handle up, I would fly this plane before battle broke! maybe we just need to get that cardinals paint job off! the plane flys like the teams play's

Or pulled the gear pins too early!

True.........the Cardiac Cardinals paint job needs to go. 😀

Was Christine the 747 that had the gear puncturing the fuselage problem at HNL over a 4th of July weekend?

I was on that flight, they couldn't get the main gear doors closed, so we turned around and landed back at HNL, they tried all night to fix it, got us back on, we sat for an hour and then they cancelled the flight.

It was the last and only 747 left in the fleet and, it took a few days of cancellations (including one takeoff and return) before they got it working again!

I was able to catch a Phillipines plane back to SFO, but missed a day's work.

It was 901...same plane that the two fleet service guys got "caught" underneath on push. (You know the one...our Arizona plane!) I'd still rather take her to HNL or OGG than Super Chicken though! (Our, ahem, beloved Cardinals plane! lol.)

You know, having been reared in AZ, 901 was always my fave. Then, one magical Friday evening, I actually got a seat to LAS  . Believe it or not, boys and girls, it can happen 😉 . This once-in-a-lifetime trip was on my favorite of all HP planes. Then on taxi she started to creak and moan like nothing I had ever heard . She was quickly added to the list of planes Mom is not allowed to board (albeit she always does because she thinks a seat in F somehow makes the plane safer  ).

It's nostalgic to here these stories about a tempormental 747. Does anyone have the full reg. number to see where she is now?

Some genius has 908 scheduled for OGG again today...

All the 747's are beer cans now. One of them went to Garuda for a while I believe, but it hit the scrapper eventually.

Wow, this sounds so familiar.....

Not sure which 747 was "Christine", but N534AW made her way into the TWA fleet in Summer of 1996, along with 3 other forlorn 747s from the deserts of the southwest. None of the 4 aircraft were ready for service on day 1 of the summer schedule change, and it just got worse as the months went on. Air returns, engine changes, inop audio/video for the entire aircraft, cracked lav tanks, you name it.

Re-registered as N306TW, TWA fleet number 17306, this particular plane was so bad it was one of the first sent back to the desert in Marana, AZ in January of 1997. I don't think we ever did get the audio/video system to work on this plane, and TWA resorted to boarding extra newspapers and crossword puzzle books to amuse passengers. (And $50 travel vouchers to apologize).

There are a few pictures of her on Airliners.net, but not quite sure how to post a link here.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that our 757s will relax and begin to enjoy the Hawaiian Islands without any more incidents!
