How many jobs will AA outsource?

Nobody CHOOSES to work for minimum wage, it's easy to say things like this when you got lucky and have a relatively good paying job.
There was no "luck" to it. I went out and found a job I was satisfied with. Lucky is an excuse lazy people use to describe people who have things they don't want to put the effort toward acquiring or achieving.

You state a fleet service clerk who started in 2000 made $7.00/hr and you are fine with that because in a few years he will be making quite a bit more. You aren't happy that it will take 9 years but it is what it is and now he's (you?) making twenty something, has health benefits matching 401K, sick time etc.
That is correct yes.

So what happens to the guy who has 20 years with a wife and 3 kids suddenly finds out his airline decided to contract out his fleet service job. Well it's too late to go back to school, he has  house and car payments, kids need braces and his septic tank just clogged up.
What you should be asking yourself is why a guy with a wife, and 3 kids would not have an exit plan when he knows he works in a very volatile vocation prone to layoffs and outsourcing.

If you work in an industry that is heavily unionized doing a job that is non skilled and has little practical application outside of your industry then you just put yourself at your employers mercy.

Those are two stupid mistakes that can bury anyone.

By the way I recently met a gentleman in his early 50's that just started a new career (he went to school) and he is doing just fine.

ZundappBella, on 02 Feb 2015 - 9:53 PM, said:
I know, he can just go find another job that pays 20 something/hr with benefits. Good luck with that since you admitted that what he has done for the last 20 years is unskilled  work.
He made that choice. Again, he knew within his first 3 years what the airline business was all about. If he did not he is a fool. If he chose to put himself in a position where he knew losing his job (a strong possibility in the airline business) would wreck his life then he made a bad decision.

The days of going to work in a factory and making a fair living are gone, all that's left are minimum wage jobs for the rest of his life, that is, unless he can come up with some sort of marketable skill and lets face it, at least 30% of the people in this country will never be able to write computer code, repair a car, wire a house or practice law no matter how much they try.
I disagree. My father worked his whole life in a factory and is enjoying a very comfortable retirement.

People believe that propaganda because TWU manufactures it. They want their membership scared and compliant. I can see their strategy is working.

They want to create the illusion that there is no way you could be successful outside of “membership”.

No matter how much they try...... that is the point. Most people don't try they just go where the wind blows them just happy to exist.

Some people are just not capable of acquiring those marketable skills (not saying you, but I'm sure you've met a few people like that).
I know more people that make excuses than I do people that "can't" and I know more people who make excuses for people who make excuses, like you for instance.

You mean you took what you DID have and turned it into a decent living?

Those people will be forced into walmart type jobs and have to collect food stamps and subsidized health care because you just can't make ends meet on that pay.
That is your version of it. My version is the government has made it far too comfortable to be "poor" in this country.

If you are poor the government will pay for your food, rent, utilities, health care, cell phone, childcare, and give you a check. It is funny the government offers so many "entitlements" to these people yet offer so little in the way of job placement or training.

Ever ask yourself why?

I bet you don’t. You refuse to see what is obvious and right in front of your face.

You advocate "Conservatives (of which I am one) SHOULD fight to privatize airport jobs." So you have no problem contracting out someone else's job to some company that will pay 1/4 what he's making now and offer no health insurance. You'd be voting for Hillary if it happened to you.
You show me one thing the government has not screwed up royally and then get back with me.

How many times have you thought to yourself a fellow employee should have been fired years ago and that if he was not in the UNION (TWU) he would have been? Do you want a lazy, incompetent, unskilled government UNION employee in charge of your safety?  You better think about that really hard.

I would like to touch on something else. If you wonder why it is so difficult to make a decent wage in this country doing unskilled labor you should look to these staffing agencies funneling illegal labor into the job market. The corporations don’t have to worry about getting busted for using illegal labor because technically they are not employees; they are temps…… right? That is more of a threat to your standard of living and employment than UNION busting ever was.

Refresh all on the entitlement you were begging to get when you were laid off.

Feel free to repost your whining about not getting the free government funded retraining for laid off AA employees such as yourself. You know, how you were able to get by with settling for 'mediocre' until you were given the pink slip, then whined publicly on this forum, that you didn't get your peice of the pie.

Of course, then you did get the entitlement.

Good for you for standing up for your values.

I never said Fleet Service was mediocre. I was talking about people working long term minimum wage jobs you imbecile.

As far as me getting the pink slip...... that was exactly my point dummy. I was pointing out if you work a non skilled high paying job and become dependent on that kind of an income you better have an exit strategy in case things don't work out. Especially if you work in an industry as volatile as an airline.

Yeah I took a grant to finish school (and paid for over half of it myself). So what? My classes ended Friday and the following Monday I had a full time job. We have gone back and forth about this for months and I have already said all I am going to and you sure as hell have not added anything new. You take beating a dead horse to a whole new level Glenn.

Everything I said just went right over your simpleton little head didn't it? You did not say one thing that had anything to do with what I said whatsoever besides repeating the same crap you have for months on end.

Do you have anything new to say you pratt or are you just going to keep recycling the same crap?

We have different beliefs about government assistance. I believe government assistance is there to help you get through a rough time and you obviously believe it is perfectly OK to make it a lifestyle. I used assistance to attain a path of self sustainability so yeah Glenn.....I stand up for my values just fine and I have lived by them. Thanks for your concern.

Medicare, they want to turn it into a voucher program, which is probably a good thing. Something like 80% of medicare is spent on the patients last few months of life.

For you mouth breathers who listen to conservative radio, Obamacare is by far the farthest thing from a gov takeover of healthcare. Healthcare has been turned over to the insurance company's with the Gov forcing people to BUY insurance from private insurance company's with private or gov money.

The ACA is a big hand out to insurance, big pharma, and hospitals. The ACA came out of the heritage foundation, a conservative think tank. Just like medicare part D, under Bush 44, and the ACA, under Obama, the federal gov CANNOT by law negotiate the price of drugs. There is not a nickel's bit of difference between a democrat and a republican, just the talking points that is nothing but hot air.

How is the government forcing people to buy insurance from "Health Insurance Exchanges" using other peoples money not a government takeover?

Because you are buying health insurance from a public company, not government insurance. A takeover would be would be, you get your government healthcare card without paying for anything like in Canada, UK, and Australia. The ACA, forces everybody to BUY insurance from an insurance company. You can still see your favorite doctor, but if he's not in your network, you just pay for the whole bill out of pocket.

Government takeover is a talking point from the republicans, it's like a dog whistle for the conservative leaning citizen. The ACA is nothing more then rules and regulations for insurance company's.

Boehner had a good fix a number years ago for healthcare, let insurance company's sell across state lines, kind of like airlines, I'm sure there would be insurance company's undercutting each other kind of like airlines. I guess it's better to complain about Obamacare then rather then actually do something. Notice it's been repeal Obamacare without anything to replace it.

The insurance companies are not the ones who pay the fines for non compliance.

How did that work out for the airline employees and the passengers?

They ARE doing something. They are attempting to repeal it.

Why should they attempt to replace an idea that was flawed to begin with.

The ACA is nowhere near single payer, but to hear the right say it, we might as well be in Cuba...
ACA is all about redistribution of wealth. It has NOTHING to do with providing quality healthcare. It is nothing more than yet another "entitlement" to hammer the middle class taxpayers with.

Democrats excuse this by citing how people experience increased cost for health care because of all the uninsured people that do not pay their hospital bill. They leave out the part where people had to drop insurance because the cost went through the roof post ACA, not to mention taxes and national debt going up to pay for this train wreck. So much for the AFFORDABLE part.

I read a story about someone paying $83,000 dollars for 2 vials of antivenom…… cost in Mexico….. $100. Feel free to Google it.

If the government really wants to get healthcare under control in this country they can start there. Not by forcing people into overpriced exchanges, further taxing the middle class, and burying our country into further debt.

Let me ask you this….. with all of the newly insured do you think your healthcare cost are going to drop one cent, or do you think it is more likely your healthcare cost AND taxes are both going to increase while your quality of care drops

Think about that then get back with me.

La Li--

You're barking up the wrong tree here; I'm much too far to the left for your liking.

Lemme put it like this: Once Single Payer was off the table, I was done. My support for the Frankenstein that became ACA is probably on a par with yours, but for polar opposite reasons...

Kev I actually have a lot of respect for you. If you would like to communicate your position about your "opposite reasons" feel free to send me a PM. I would be interested to hear your perspective.

Thanks!

I simply feel that Single Payer is the way for us to go as a nation. I'm of the mind that health(care) is a fundamental right for American citizens, and something we should be happy to provide for each other. Many on the right feel that the ACA goes too far, is "socialist," and more.

I think it doesn't go far enough. In his quest to appease, Obama wound up with a sort of hydra that doesn't really make anyone happy. Insurance is still expensive (albeit more accessible to some), drugs are still more expensive than they need to be, and so on.

...And that doesn't even touch on the separate issue of deficiencies w/in the VA system.

Just my .02...

Sorry for the hijack, Slopoke...
