IAM & AFA file for elections at DL

You still have avoided the issues poised to you.

I think the IAMs position should have been that the work was struck work and they will not do it. After the first termination they join the strikers.

If not they could have done other things that would have jammed up the operation, instead they helped the company bust the strike. They took pleasure in it and gloated about it, thats unforgivable, their animosity toward a rival labor organization led them to betray the working class because "An injury to one is an injury to all"..

We may be facing that AA.

There's a reason why the IAM has lost half its membership. They had a good reputation at one time but they blew it at EAL when they left Charlie Bryan and the EAL workers out in the cold. They backed off setting up secondary pickets despite the fact that the RLA doesnt prohibit it and its been done in the past and they had IAM represented Hudson General doing struck work at LGA. I'm not saying we did any better but we never sold ourselves as "The Fighting".

The airline Unions (collectively) undid all that Ron Carey did. You guys at USAIR led the latest wave in 2002 by opening up your agreements to give concessions prior to a BK filing. Now other industries are following the example set by the airline industry and pushing the working class out of the middle class, and they are doing this without any opposition other than a little grumbling from the Union leaders as they sit back and continue to collect their six figure salaries (they themselves are insulated from the setbacks but that doesnt stop them from using the word "we" when they talk about it). In the meantime these same leaders do everything in their power to prevent any actions that would stop the carnage.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope they vote union, this way, maybe it will help facilitate a miracle where Unions will run out of excuses and actually start to lead the working class back to the middle class. Personally if I was at DAL I would go for the IBT, because if labor is to ever become an effective force again it must consolidate and that consolidation is not likely to occur in the IAM which is in decline, besides what does the IAM have to offer as an example ? The USAIR disater of a contract thats at the bottom of the industry? The IBT represents UPS and Continental and UAL, they all are already ahead of USAIR and their contracts are currently in negotiations.

The IAM did not open the agreements, in 2002 they met with the company and never reached anything. The company filed bankruptcy and then we were forced to negotiate or face an abrogation, and if you know history we did have our CBA abrogated in 2005 during the second bankruptcy.

Dec 21, 2002
US Airways and the International Association of Machinists, Districts 141 and 141-M, representing approximately 6,200 mechanics and related employees and 4,900 fleet service workers, today reached tentative agreements on new cost-cutting measures to support the company's restructuring. Both tentative agreements require ratification by the IAM's membership

And US filed chapter 11 in August of 2002, and the December was the second round of concessions while in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

And while in the second bankruptcy our CBA M&R was abrogated in Feb of 2005.

Well say what you want but the word is that Delta has decided to give its mechanics a 10% retroactive increase so they dont go union.

What Bob the scabs? They don't deserve anything except an a$$ beating and this is only directed at the PMNW scabs not the current DL guys sorry you have to be mingled in with the trash. They don't want or even deserve a union. and as far as the Iam I hope the get their a@@ handed to them (sorry Kev) they are a scab union bar none. If they had done their job in the first place the mechanics at NW would have never thrown them to the street.

Greetings everyone. I'm new here and never voted for a union before. I was tipped off to this interesting and informative site by a friend, and I'm glad I came here.
As a 11 year full time ramper here in Atl, I'll be voting yes(for the first time in my working life) for a union, because of one huge reason, and that's the Economy ! Never have I appreciated my job More than I do now. I'm guessing that my job will be protected in a more organized way, than if it were "totally" left up to Delta, should the Manure "really hit the fan".

What makes you think, if the poop hits the fan and Delta files bankruptcy, that your union will be relevant. Their main concern will be staying in power ,making concessions and collecting dues....................... your job comes 2nd !

During the NWA bankruptcy, NWA took 20% of my wages. My union won back a large part of that money that was stolen from me. How much did DL give back to you? Jack, thats how much? Like an ####, dead beat brother-inlaw, they took and had no intention of ever paying you back for your generosity.

The person who responded to you immediately, said something along the lines of what i would have responded to you.(I would have been more tactful) but the point was made nonetheless.

Err, Delta's giving me back close to $550.00 on Oct. 15 ! And it's being given back, all without a union ........................or paying union dues ! 😉

Thus the two time misunderstood vote

That's $550.00............................per month btw . 😱

Why dont you compare what both employees lost and got back, you will clearly see NW's employees faired better than DL.

Did DL negotiate with the employees?

Nope,

Did NW?
Yes.

Look at medical costs, cheaper at NW than DL, NW gets more vacation, sick time, and got a lump sum payment, did you at DL?

I'm a civil war buff, so.................when a union gets in @ DL ramp(IMO I believe they will) it will be akin to Grant taking Richmond !!
