Large workgroups need a strong well organized union skilled at negotiating. Ever hear speaking softly garners more attention than speaking loudly? Course carrying a big stick helps too. The big stick is leverage, and it will take some brains, not brawn, to use the leverage we have to negotiate a favorable transitional contract. If allowed to vote, the union that proves to me they have what it's gonna take will earn my vote. So far neither has been convincing, but certainely the IBT has the edge. The IBT mechanics have been very professional when discussing Union issues with us non-represented folks and have never invaded "our territory" uninvited. That very simple non-act speaks volumes and has earned alot of respect from us non-represented folks and will most likely earn our votes if the times comes. I guess will get to see what the IAM is about if an election is ever held...that's assuming they would campaign for our votes.
