If merger approved Goodbye AFA?

MMB,

Right to Work (for less) Laws do not apply to airline workers who are unionized.

Airline workers are covered by the Federal Law, The Railway Labor Act.

Only if there was a RTW(for less) at the Federal level would it then apply.

The RLA provides for closed shops which airlines are, a condition of employment is joining the union.

State by state RTW for less laws do not apply to unionized Airline Workers.

And if you think being non-union versus union in the airlines, go ask the ramp and customer service what US did to them in 1992.

Downgraded 40% to part-time
Eliminated their pension
took away their sick time
took away their vacation time
took away their OJI protection
outsourced mail, freight and most of caterting
outsourced express work
cut their pay and benefits
took away family insurance for part-time same cost as full time making it $300 a month for coverage

So says a union rep.
$39 a month over a 30 year carrier comes to a little over $14,000. If I was paying someone $14,000 to represent me and the best they could get me was average compensation, I’d be more than upset.

sky high states: OK. Have NO REPRESENTATION. You better THROW OUT that contract you have as well. You think Management is going to give you ANYTHING out of the goodness of their hearts. LOL. Sheesh, if it werent for FAR's, there would be ONE F/A on each aircraft. Duty days would exceed 15 HOURS. etc. And, you'd be making $14.000 per YEAR.
Your UNION didnt get you average compensation, you VOTED on it in bankruptcy. Choices were TOUGH, quit, accept concessions, vote them down, have the Judge abrogate your contract.............decisions.....decisions. Oh, I guess I'll blame the UNION.

Contract?
I ain't got no stinkin' contract!
And I haven't since I left Beech Aircraft for Delta, 27 years ago. In fact, it was because of all the injustice and backbiting of the union that I left Beechcraft.

sky high states: I assumed you worked for U, since this is a U FORUM. Anyway, this industry is HEAVILY UNIONIZED for good reason. Speaking of 27 years ago, airline employees dealt with Frank Lorenzo, Carl Ichan, Steven Wolf, remember them? I DO, I worked for two of them. And, I too, left a company but I left because I wasnt represented by a UNION, because the company was NEVER going to pay me more then just above poverty wages!

Anyone can say what they want. I for one don't blame the union for the state of our contract here on the east. We took concessionary cuts in BK or we were going to take them from the judge. There was NOOOOO way aroud it. So, for those that wanted to keep their job voted to take the negotiated cuts to risk the cuts going deeper. The last round of concessions that were sent out to vote were sent WITHOUT the unions approval. It was the best I believe could have been done. How do you negotiate with a gun to your head? Easier said than done. Look no further than the personal vote you cast as blame if your unhappy. I would be VERY concerned working as a flight attendant for Usairways WITHOUT some sort of protection. Example, ohhhh we have decided to layoff EVERYONE in DCA base and close it. What protection would ya have? None besides what the company felt you deserved. No thanks.

That makes another 'NO' vote then? It does from this side.

sky high states: From YOUR SIDE, I remember a DELTA flight attendant who was FIRED for FALSE drug test. She turned to AFA for help since she HAD NO RECOURSE at Delta!!!!!!!!!!

Two flights attendants unions have taken up the case of a non-unionised flight attendant at Delta Air Lines who was fired after the airline alleged she provided a `substitute` urine sample during a random drug test.

Yasuko Ishikawa has denied the allegation, saying that she was mostly vegetarian, weighed less than 100 pounds and had drunk a lot of water before the sample, which she maintains was legitimate. Ishikawa also said that a test
she got done privately after the incident was also `dilute,` (showed low levels of creatinine, the metabolite found in urine) like the one taken by Delta Air Lines and did not show any signs of drugs.

Ishikawa`s case has now been taken up by both the Association of Flight Attendants and the Transport Workers Union of America, which are each trying to organise the carrier`s 20,000 flight attendants. Both unions claim
Ishikawa`s plight highlights the vulnerability of non-union employees, and point to a similar case at another airline where the worker was able to resume work after submitting another sample.

Delta Air Lines has said that the carrier had to take a strong line on the issue in order to ensure passenger safety, but admitted that Ishikawa had not been given an opportunity to resubmit, nor was the sample actually tested for drugs.

Take at look at what HP F/A's and cust service workers made before the HP/US hook up. If the Delta F/A don't vote to keep the union they better look out!
Doug America West and now USAirways CEO pay non-union America West agents a top out pay of $13.09hr until the union of CWA representing the USAirways agents brought the agents in under USAirways agents contract now the top out is $18.00 hr
The pay scale for airport and reservations at America West before April 2006
both classifications start at $7.65 per hour and top out
at $13.09 per hour. It is important for agents to have this
information so they can understand the reality of America West.America West pay raises and premiums and the pay scale were on a merit system and those raises and premiums were given to individuals at their current pay rate, rather than across the board. The top America West rate was still $13.09 per hour ($27, 230 per year). It never increase more that $13.09
The Communications Workers of America representing passengers service employees negotiated a agreement with USAirways and America West for a interim 20 month transition agreement to bring America West agents pay up to $18.00 dollars hr. + future increases and improved benefits with snap backs to pre concessionary agreements of USAirway pass contract

Each passengers service agent contributed $22.214 in concessions in 94,95,96,97,98
We gave up our cost of living raises because of no union contract
We gave up our defined benefit pension plan earlier so the company pay in less we lost 5 years of vesting
We gave up holidays and vacation
We were paid back profit sharing for 92 wages
At the same time
Our executives our management and all the other groups at US Airways continue to receive annual cost of living raises continue to receive their defined benefit person plans
Continue to receive their holiday and vacation days
The passengers service group were the only one's who made financial concessions in those years because we were non-union. Passengers service employees have been left out of discussions because we lack a collective voice without reprehension we have been "rewarded" with more sacrifices in benefits than any other work group and inconsistent new polices and rules
