IMPRESSIONS OF INCOMPETENCE

Duct Tape Doug strikes again!

Here’s a picture of the floor by the aft lav:

I was sent the About US newsletter I was looking for; more on that later. Don’t forget to keep sending me more Impressions of Incompetence at n965vj@yahoo.com.

Your station may have some, MX may have some. But Tempe is not going to pay someone to fix it. Especially since their survey stated that customers don't mind pealing wallpaper.

They won't replace it because they are dead set on SHOOSHING the bulkheads. They are not about to but something classy looking up there. It's just like a dog and a fire hydrant.

Here’s the January 31 About US article I was thinking of. I suppose it’s typical of the frat-house mentality in Tempe to actually refer to NEFs as “Never Ever Fixedâ€￾ in the company rag.

Presuming that the new email address and hotline to report NEFs was actually in the testing phase when this newsletter came out, it’s been six weeks now.

Has anyone actually seen any indication that the program is running?

Then your employees lied, not me. I had a chance to get in and when I was told the starting pay was $8 and some odd cents, I said no thanx.

Looking back it was a great decision on two fronts...I made more at my current job, and after 9/11 I would have been terminated as a low union(low on the totem pole that is) employee.

So please 700, enlighten me...what was the ramp rate circa 1999 for say a 15 year ramp employee? Because I would like the correct and truthful wage.

I'll enlighten you...circa 1999 top of scale for the ramp and customer service was 17.88 per hour.
The same as it was for at least 7 years prior to that. Hence the unions. (ergo, which is part of the reason for the unions on the property.)(Other airlines were making much more than that. Closer to 20 and above. WN currently makes around 26 an hour TOS.) Contrast that to the working wage that the WEST made prior to the merger. Why would you stay??? Or even care for that matter???

Just a hint, 13.00 TOS, based on "performance". Just a hint, we really know that no one made TOS for HP. Did they? :angry2:

Ok, I don't know how true this is, but I flew CO last week. I always talk a lot, and usually end up talking to the passengers next to me until they have to pretend they're tired etc. (I like to talk, but I also do it on purpose)...

So anyway, I had FC. I started talking to the Flight Attendant. She was with CO for 8 yrs. Super friendly, and she liked to talk too.

I said, "it must really stink having to pick up after all these scumbag, dirty passengers". And she said, "oh, we don't do that, there is a cleaning crew that comes in as soon as the passengers deplane". I was like, "are you serious"? On US Airways, the flight attendants are always picking up garbage, etc - and she was like, "Really"? Like I was nuts?

On another flight, the one FA from WN told me, "this company is so great, i've been a flight attendant for 5 years and I make $37 an hour, and they treat us so great... like, on valentines day, we got a card that said "we LUV you, and it had a gift certificate inside".

If thats true, they really do treat their people well...

I said, "if you guys are Union, why do I see off duty pilots helping you serve drinks and stuff"? and she told me, "the company treats us so well, we'd never start anything that would hurt our company"... I managed teamsters for 4 years... they have to be one amazing company to work for, thats all i can say...

On a good note, US was two airlines, coming together, both with problems - and even though there are still a lot of problems, they are profitable. Give it time, there's still hope...

 Nice try, but you aren't wearing the right feathers!

HEY PB, mold spores are growing in each gate lounge, ticket counter and breakroom. Take a look at the ceiling in your next departure ceiling. Now we can also give you a tour of the new managers offices with clean vents, proper air filters, new carpet and Deer Park water dispensers. They don't care and as far as the passengers health at risk....what else would you expect from a LCC?

This junk coming out of the vent is apparently mold. I've been told that it is very unhealthy to ingest mold spores.

As someone who was evacuated out of the building I work in because of mold, Piney's statement above is totally correct! No excuses for this on an airplane.

Solid Cactus,

You should stop drinking the cactus flavored KoolAid. US was two weak, mismanaged airlines which each had their own unique problems, but which had one common strength--the best employees in the industry. They came together, continued to be mismanaged, and squandered any chance of long lasting success. In the process they alienated both employees and loyal frequent fliers, and continue to do so to this day.

While all airlines can expect to be in the red due to fuel, US faces significant revenue shortfalls, as their costs go up due to poor labor relations and a continued outflow of high yield business travelers who are no longer willing to pay more for less. Until they learn how to be successful at the core competency of running an airline properly and efficiently, as some of their major competitors do, they have little chance at long term survival, let alone success. I fear US may be one of the first casualties of an extended period of high oil prices, labor unrest, and customer anger.

We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more. Time to be held accountable.

well, art, i am curious if you will share any data on how many people have left US for other airlines and how much revnue. I know I have and I know you have and in conversations with people outside of this forum, I know others have. But, the fact remains that there are people, including on here, that say they aren't going to take it but continue to send revenue to US. They way I look at it, they couldn't care less if you whine and complain everyday because your complaints fall on deaf ears and they continue to operate a business crapual airline. They aren't looking to attract valuable customers, they just want to operate at the point where they keep things just a hair above the line where almost no business traveler in their right mind would want to fly US. I don't know why anyone would fly them now, but that is just my opinion. by the way, here's a pic from a CO breakfast SNACK flight on a flt between BOS and CLE. It is more than US serves on a breakfast flight for a 3 1/2 hour flight. Are you sure that with the level of service CO provides they won't be the first to go into bankruptcy with high fuel prices???? 🙄 I'm sure that is what the bean counters in the sandbox think.
