WeAA,

Tower positions are in the IAM/US CBA right now, its a bid position.
I'd have to suspect if it's not already that management will want us to be prequalified (and proficient) in the job?

Just doesn't seem like something that any old anyone should be up there?

Being more specific of course the method used. If I didn't care at all that would be just a little nuts.
Fair enough, but even the methods chosen should be weighed carefully.

No. Just saying especially when it comes to the tiebreaker I don't care if they use SS#, Birthday or my shoe size. For Fleet as CB said its not as complicated as it was/is for maintenance.

Our biggest issue is probably those Tower people on the AA side that the NMB put into the mix? My "guess" is they will be separated from the ramp and you will have to be trained and qualify to go up there anyway?

The numbers for any issues just aren't huge in my group for me to get crazy about. And my company and occupational are the same anyway.
Just for perspective; over here (DL), the ramp is one division and the Tower is another. Tower agents are on the same payscale as the ramp/gate, and get the same lead override we do. We are in the same craft/class. All seniority is by straight DOH.

And I agree with your idea that not just anyone should be up there.

Again I'm not going to speculate how we're going to do it here because the back and forth will absolutely grow quickly out of control with extreme emotions. Since TWA I'm just very tired of the unfortunate bickering. Whatever process is ultimately decided on will not make everyone happy. There's no way to do that, so.

Thank you sir. We'll see how that plays out in the future and what the three sides eventually agree on? I have preferences I like in both contracts but I'm quite sure the company didn't like my choices last week? As would be expected from their first pass.

As CB said, they're not exactly going to make any of this easy
  You're welcome

...So you pick the one that has the least amount of heartburn long term...

Probably a good idea. Just for the heck of it I'll say I don't like the SS language (even if mine starts with an 8) I would have preferred birthdays myself. I'm 51 and a 39 YO can have the same hire date as me.

I'd like to think I'm just a little wiser than that 39YO and earned an extra credit for my life experiences?

But again Cest La Vie.

I personally would rather you didn't stay away. I'd rather learn things then beat each other up.

Ok, but for the future, maybe picture this anytime we might come to your thread, and you guys might come to ours:

I'm not really in your thread.  I am standing in the right wheel well, with the gear door down, working on a skydrol leak, and you are loading the belt loader at the aft bin on the MD-80.  And we are yelling back and forth.

Well, got to get back to the breakroom.  Gilligan's Island is on.

Perfect candidate for outsourcing, eh?

Good point, PJ, but remember, there was NO restrictions nor any arbitrated decision that prohibited our Ill Ask Management from correcting that. If you have been told otherwise, they are just bs you.
This negotiation team could have made us whole with this merger but they dealt our seniority out when they signed the TWU pact. They didnt have to do that PJ but they did. Thats the story.
Even in arbitrated decisions, things can be challenged but in our case there was no arbitration. They may present boatloads of excuses like the twu wouldnt have agreed, or the company wouldnt have agreed...blah blah.
The fact is that the mccaskill bond act gave us the right to negotiate this with forced arbitration and the company would have no say so. They waived that PJ when they submitted. Its over....we lose and it has nothing to do with canale.
Tim,

I love the way you make everything seem so simple. When it comes to seniority you need to look at 2 things, what does the contract say and what would the people do that got affected if changed to straight doh. Think this through Tim. Do you honestly think that an employee that has an advantage now is going to say, well you know that guy was here before me? Now, take the contract language and see what that person who now gets affected by straight doh may do with the language. Hint, it is something you like to do.

Is it considered a high seniority job?
Until we see what they did as far as integrating the AA side guys into the mix, currently they have no seniority at all. The AA side was not in a Union or had a CBA.

So yea this will be interesting? Do they get DOH for seniority or the date they were pushed into the Association? I'd have to doubt they would get the second one and McCaskill Bond could/would have something to say about that?

Going to be interesting to read the mediators correspondence.

We used to do it by last name at NW. IIRC, that got me something like 30 spots on the PT (DOH) list...

And if Skychef was nice enough to hand me some cold sodas, one of them has your name on it if you want it.

And my choice was always Mary Ann.

I'll take it. E. 5 in on the alphabet. Sweet.

That could be an option for our negotiators to avoid any problems. But I'd put my Condo up on the bet it's not going to happen and they won't hear even an entertainment of it from the company.
