Yes, they are still burning cash there every day. Part of it is supposed to open up in the spring.

MCI,
I'll definitely cut you some slack, on the spelling of the "Taj Mahal"

Was your question a " Freudian slip" , in otherwords bumping(25%) JFK, after AA hacks MCI/AMT to death ??

How's the KC Chiefs doing ??

Better still, How's the NE pats doing ??

MCI, I'm really only bustin' on ya today.
I really think if PIT winds up with home field advantage, that they WILL beat Brady, and CO. But not win the SB. I think PHL would beat PIT

All right, I'll leave you alone for the rest of the day 😛 😛 😛

<_< Hello Bear! The spelling thing is getting old! People with small minds love to point out spelling errors when they have no other way of contributing an inteligent counter point! So---- every so often, I'll throw them a bone to see who will bite on it! The Cheifs? The potental is there! That's what makes it so frustrating! Oh well, It's getting late! Merry Christmas Bear! Hope you and yours have a Happy New Year!!!!! 😉

Cute and cynical answer..but inaccurate. <_<
Here is the background on where the cash is coming from on the JFK terminal.

Ok, looked at the link, it was about a cargo terminal, not the AA term.

Whoever provides the financing the fact is that AA will be paying for this. Thats like saying that since the mortgage company was the one that presented the funds to the person who you bought your home from that you are not responsible for the money. The only thing that pointing out how its financed means is that the actual costs that AA will pay for the terminal will be much higher.

Guess you didnt bother to read the whole article......here is a clipout regarding the passenger terminals.

More recently at JFK, the IDA has approved tax-exempt bond financing for Continental Airlines’ $30 million air cargo facility, American Airlines’ $1.3 billion overhaul and replacement of its passenger terminals, and the $100 million second phase renovation of British Airways’ passenger terminal.

Desert fox,
who do you think will be repaying the bond?

Bohica

Of course and obviously AA will be repaying it. But it will be in the form of the normal terminal lease payments; and it will be as and when it is in use by AA.

There should also be a payback to AA in the form of the efficiency gained from the use of the new terminal.

I personally hope that enlarged facilities means expanded trans-atlantic service and a better experience for the pax like myself will result in many more of them.

Oh least we forget the lease payments will more than likely have increadsed substanially. Also there is probably a long term lock in on gate space etc. You can be assured it will cost a pretty penny.
All this was started pre 9-11 when AA was looking at TWA's int'l routes.
I certainly hope it all works out...

This all started in 1999, DFWCC, long before there was any thought of TWA routes and a year before Jetblue even took to the skies. Having worked at JFK in the early 90's, this is long overdue.

Yes, the lease payments go up, but that is partly offset with other savings.

The current terminal we've been using isn't exactly cheap to maintain, nor is it what I'd call energy efficient.

It will be nice to be able to pull cable without having to worry about asbestos in the walls, or bringing up the wiring/plumbing to current building codes every time you need to knock out a wall for expansion...

Then you have the current three check-in areas and corresponding bagrooms. That gets consolidated into a single check-in area and one bagroom when all is done, which means a lot less confusion for customers, and fewer staff.

Another plus is that the new terminal gives us a lot more widebody gates with which to go after ground handling contracts for other carriers.

AA spent millions renovating the terminal in the 90s. It was not pretty but it still moved plenty of people through there. My house was built 25 years before the old terminal, you wont see me tearing it down to put up a new one just for the hell of it.

Yes, from us. Namely the $120,000 paycut we took till 2008.

How many more gates will we finally end up with? What do you consider to be "a lot"?

And as far as the contracts what does that mean for mechanics?

Funny you say that, Iberia is pulling up the stakes and getting out of town from what I hear, apparently management has raised the rates they charge IB for ground handling...

It has been six months since the last post on the staus of AA the AA terminal(s) at JFK. On another board I read that domestic might move in July. Another poster talked about next year for international.

Anyone here have any update to share?
