US Airways' decision not to confirm firm orders for five Embraer 190s during the third quarter brings to 15 the total number of the type it has opted to transfer into purchase options.

In February 2006, a total 57 undelivered Embraer 170s ordered by US Airways were converted into 25 firm orders for E-190s as well as 32 additional firm orders for the type that were subject to reconfirmation.

"Originally, it was 57 aircraft and 10 of those were converted to purchase options which equals 47 and then the reduction of the five which makes it a current 42 firm orders," says an Embraer spokeswoman.

The 42 E-190s now listed as firm orders for US Airways "takes into account the dropping of these five firm orders", she says.

As of 30 September, US Airways had taken delivery of 24 E-190s.

A US Airways spokesman today confirms that the carrier has "indeed taken delivery of all 25 firm orders from Embraer" from the original order.

He says the 42 E-190s that US Airways will take in total "Was the number that met our fleet needs".

If they do get out to PHX, y'all are going to love them. It's a really nice little plane to work.

I can say it isn't any joy working them on the rampside. Give me a 737 anyday over the 175 or 190......

E90 has the best F to coach ratio of anything in the fleet. Nice plane to fly in.

Given that the EMB 170 & 190 are new state of the art A/C, there are a few items that I can't understand the use of from a rampside point of view. One item is the constant "open mike" over the headset, and the other is that goofy stick required to close the cargo doors. I have heard some good conversations between the crew during pushback, and have often wondered if they knew that I could hear it all. Once they crank-up an engine, you are done with hearing anything. One would think that they could have used a better design for the cargo doors, with someting such as a thinner pull type cable that attached to door. I have worked many different type A/C over the years, and would have expected better from someting this new.

One of the latest AboutUS said that we took the final delivery of our E190 fleet.... so we our not getting 42 as the article states?

I think it was talking about the last of the 25 firm orders in the original contract with Embraer - well, not the original contract since that one was for the 170's and reached between the 2 BK's. But under the post BK2 amendment to the original contract which replaced the 170's with 190's.

So we have 25 E190 on the property is there a option for more and what is the schedule

Last I heard, any more purchases of E190 are put off for at least 1 year due to obvious cash flow issues.
Soonest would be 4th quarter 2009.
Cheers

As of 30 September, Embraer showed a firm order backlog of a further 18 E-190s still earmarked for US Airways. This one-year delay is interesting. Do you know if it has already been implemented, or is in the works?
