LGA Crew Base To Close early 2008

It was done PRIMARILY for the PIT f/as with the hopes to offset any further bumping and or displacements. If you are referring to me, I am not bitter.
I am just tired of PIT crying "poor us". Well, I was one of "US" at one time in PIT and the senior folks didn't give two sh!ts about what happened to us because it didn't effect them. Well, guess what? It is now. The PIT base is no longer and they are not the "mecca" they once were and think they still are.
Actually I look at it as being done primarily for anyone with less seniority than those 314 based in PIT so that maybe we won't have to be bumped out of our present base. If enough take it, I may be able to stay in PHL. You can also look at it as being done for the company so they won't have to pay the moves for those who want to sell their homes and leave PIT....and no, I don't count you in as being bitter.

Seems unlikely given the high cost of hotel rooms for early Shuttles. Pretty much every airline has a New York base for this reason.

If so, at least the most junior F/As in the system will have their choice of which ever base they like. It will be fabulous to watch people freak out and cry seniority violation.

Someone low in seniority with an ax to grind about the PIT closure starts a unfounded rumor to get a reaction, congratulations it worked. Misery wants company I guess but don't drop by her place folks shes a bad cook.

Now there has been some slanderous remarks on here, but calling someone a bad cook is uncalled for. We are all good cooks. 23 minutes, steam, medium. Ding dong dong

"My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."

Good grief. People, we have too many bases as it is. It's one staffing crisis after another. We really only need CLT, PHL, PHX and maybe DCA. BOS is even well....on the block.

Actually, I did hear that BOS was closing. (oh, wait, that was in 1984!)

Shouldn't the thread title be changed to include the word Rumor?

I thought the reason the base was kept in LGA is the cost of hotels in NYC. If you have to start overnighting a large amount of crews that will be expensive.

There is already a large amount of crews overnighting in LGA. I wonder how much it costs the company to lease the space for the crewroom in LGA? Given that mainline and Shuttle only use one side of the terminal now.

Good point, assuming a homogenous mainline operation and you are talking about a mainline domicile.

I wonder if much of the early morning originators are now handled by non-mainline operations and the cost of a few hotels for the remaining mainline early/late operations would be more than offset by closing the domicile, especially if existing commercial property can be turned into an income producer, say, selling Four Pointe pies they could not give away that day.

As always, a reasonably competent company will (should) always have continuously updated contingency plans for as many aspects of an operation as reasonable, therefore the visibility (accidental or otherwise) of such a "plan of action" may mean nothing more than a regular update or, perhaps, negotiations are in progress.

Mainline pays the costs of overnighting the crew and other expenses for most Express Carriers.

I don't understand what you are saying. If a base closes, those affected cannot randomly bump anyone senior to their own seniority. They can only opt into a base where there are people junior to them.

I have been a long time lurker on this board and this is the first time I have actually joined and posted. Is there not enough stuff going around in this company that someone has to start unfounded rumors. There is no truth in this. It is simply a jaded person just passing along rumors. Take a look at the October Inflight Newsletter. They address this very question:

Q. Are there any plans to close any other domiciles?
A. At this point in time, Pittsburgh is the only scheduled base closure.

So everyone stop believing everything you read here. Anyone can post anything. Just relax and worry about something that you really need to worry about.

Yeah but the Management...especially the guys out there in Tempe lies all the time...who are we to believe?...

The Union Lies...
The Management Lies...
The Governmental Lies...

See where I'm going with this?
