Or, should we just wait until our financial situation improves and a more logical a/c like 330-200s or 767s 200 or 300 series can be purchased/leased affordably?

Well, that will be interesting because for every US1 they are chasing away, they will probably have to generate 10-30 new customers. Since they don't believe in advertising (at least at it relates to the East side of the operation), I wonder if they think that people will just stumble onto US. Or, maybe they intend to fill their planes with the $98 customer.

when has stagnation ever resulted in financial improvement?

There is no time in this industry to just "wait around", U.S realises the potential of Europe at the moment and has to act accordingly..

this rumor seems rather well substantiated and/or dispersed: laura albert, in her salutation to the latest e-line, encouraged us to look for new equipment and european destinations.
dp may be getting it? if so, i readily retract some of my previous comments concerning his regional sensibilities. hey, i can eat humble pie; and, in this situation, i will eat and eat and eat!!!
now maybe he will reconsider the signifance of our fflyers???

Step in the right direction. Now bring all of the Embraer flying back in house and I'd be all about this airline.

Heck, I wouldn't mind if they only have 190's on mainline. Let's just get them already! Let Repugnant keep the 170's.

You don't mind?

What about the mainline jobs that are gone on May 28th? I bet they mind. I bet they mind alot. And what about the continuing replacement of mainline if they get more 170s or 175s? Plus the loss of jumpseat priveleges, and Republic employees get on the flights non-rev before US employees?

Also, wouldn't it be nice to have flexibility with crews between the different capacities like the 319/320/321? Instead of ridiculously having a contract airline flying the same cockpit type as mainline? Has that ever even happened before?

How can mainline pilot and FA jobs being directly replaced by new hires at an outside company be something you wouldn't mind? 190s are just replacing 737s- no growth there, in fact some loss of FA positions as it has two FA instead of three.

And don't forget they allowed ANY Express carrier to fly CRJ900s, 90 or so of them. How many 190s do you think this lowball airline is going to get? They hate having mainline employees. E170s,E175s, and CRJ900s will suit them just fine without having to pay thier own employees to fly 190s with, what four more seats? Get real, fleeced again, no big surprise. They have not placed an order for 190s.

More transatlantic service is nice, but it's amazing that people are singing glory over four secondhand planes while 28 mainline planes are being outsourced to welfare labor.

Whoa buddy. First of all, my father is a MDA pilot, so I feel their pain. Second of all, when/if US get's the 190's, they will be recalled with better pay than the 170s.

Now, I am not saying that I am OK with the whole Repugnant deal. Heck no, I am pissed off. But I know there is no way to reverse the deal.

Has that ever even happened before?

Actually, it has....in a way. Take a look at the regionals, and the CRJ family. The CRJ, CR7, and CR9 all have the same cockpit, but pilots are restricted to one specific aircraft due to pay differences. The same thing would happen with the 170 and 190 anyway.

And don't worry, I am just as mad as you are about this deal. Save your argument for somebody else. Heck, I will even join you the next time.

Can we get this back on topic please. CRJ's are not going to be making flights across the Atlantic (I hope!!).

Thank you.

Actually, that's not the case everywhere. Some, like Mesa, do indeed pay all their CRJ/CR7/CRJ9 pilots all differently. Others don't. I believe at SkyWest, for example, the CRJ/CR7 captains all make the same rate, and the F/O's all make the same rate; whether they actually use that flexibility and have all the pilots qualified for both aircraft, I couldn't tell you.

It's really not much differently than, say, the B757/B767. At US, there's one payscale for both planes. At some other airlines, there are two (or even three) different payscales for them.

At PSA the pilots are qualified in both the CRJ and the CR7. We are paid the same without regard to which aircraft we fly.
