US is getting 3 more 757's that are E-Top. Is there any possibility that any current ones can be converted to it? I guess it depends when they take delivery of the 3, but those three can actually fill in till they get their 757's rated. Then again it may not be possible.

When are they due to get the A330-200's? Are there any possibilities of moving them up?

It seems so simple, but that's not the case. It will cost over 1 million dollars per 757 to get them ETOPS ready. Basically, it's a big ole mess to do that, better to get ones that are already wired and with the right equipment.

US-west brought some of their 757's up to ETOPS standards so why could it not be done on the 757's at US-east that are able to be upgraded? Also on that airliners.net site it states that those 757's parked there are intended for an airline called VIM. If you type in the individual tail number and scroll down the pics it is mentioned there. I do hope there is some truth to this rumor. It would be VERY nice.

But the pictures were taken in May 2005.

Some have mentioned the cost of converting a single 757 to ETOPS standards but how much does one of those 757's previously operated by ATA cost? I wonder where those 757's sitting in munich from ATA are now? I guess it remains to be seen.

ETOPS is real tricky, the first 3 AWA AC where not to bad because of the way they where configured all the rest basicly require huge amounts of rewiring and large cost and that is not inlcuding the Boeing ransom of some 3 million for paperwork to rate the gears as Hvy (which technicaly is unrelated to ETOPS)! Just a balpark is at least 2 million a AC when all is said and done. That is a lot of tickets to sell in a low margin business?

In regards to 3 new cities, 3 "new" planes.... who said that 2 of the 3 cities would be daily service?

Would it not make sense to operate 2 of the 3 cities 4x a week, which gives you a plane on the ground 6 days out of 7, for maintenance/swaps.. etc.

oh, can't wait to fly "Envoy" in one of these *koff* :: grin ::

Hey Etops, old buddy, old pal

Who are you and why do you think I am going to provide you, and only you, with information?

Put the pipe down. You are at work.

VIM wanted to lease these 4 a/c that were formerly operated by ATA. Apparently, they never did. Here is a picture of the 4 of them taken in October 2005 in Munich.

Same 4, same day, different view:

They are
L/N model registration remarks former airline former reg.
692 B757-23N EI-LTA Stored at Munich (MUC) ATA Airlines N515AT
888 B757-23N EI-LTO Stored at Munich (MUC) ATA Airlines N523AT
895 B757-23N EI-LTU Stored at Munich (MUC) ATA Airlines N524AT
931 B757-23N EI-LTY Stored at Munich (MUC) ATA Airlines N526AT

The story is that US is getting 3 of these aircraft, possibly all 4. It was very recently approved by the board of directors.

The questions are who's op cert will they be added to and which routes will they fly???

A little more info:
692 was delivered to ATA 11 Oct 1995
888 was delivered to ATA 21 Sep 1999
895 was delivered to ATA 25 Oct 1999
931 was delivered to ATA 23 Jun 2000

look for a possible announcement on new european routes to lisbon , milan ,& stockholm sweden on the 20th. got it from a credible source. i hope i am not wrong on this.

You started this thread from a "credible" source.

If you always get a quick response, why didn't you say "hey Scott" before you posted?

"Peace"

And of course the terminal was built ready for expansion, but no talk of that, unlike at airports like CLT that actually give a damn about the airline that pays the airport's bills. Leave it to PHL...

In turn, CLT has seen US slash job levels and continue to charge the 3rd highest average airfares in the country. US wants expansion at PHL, it can pay for it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: after the PIT thing, US won't see a whole lot of help at the other end of the state. Want more gates? Build 'em. Use what you got or it'll go to the highest bidder.

Er, BOS-LHR is not exactly operated with a 757 by AA or anyone else. AA currently has 2x 772 on the route. You're confusing it with either the seasonal BOS-MAN or BOS-SNN.

The point here is that CO's "longer" 757 ETOPS flights are like CLE-LGW in the summer. The reason for this (and AA running ex-BOS and ex-JFK to a few thinner destinations) is that people don't exactly line up to fly narrowbody coach over the pond. CO might be able to fill the BF cabin with some high-revenue pax, but with the current Envoy US won't be getting the Biz flyers to fall all over themselves to spend a few grand for a seat in the front of a 752. And you have much less cargo capacity when compared to a widebody.

So basically, for roughly the cost it took us to get rid of Siegel, we can ETOPS-rate three aircraft. Not bad!
