I'm not Billary fan here but Obama prolly could've locked the election if he had chosen them for VP.

The Dems should focus on McCain and quit the Palin whining already or Obama will surely lose.

All the planets were aligned for a runaway Dem victory and they are blowing it...

Mark the date: I heartily agree with a post from whatkindoffreshhell. Hard to fathom such an ostensibly shrewd/astute Obama getting tripped up so close to the election by letting the whole Palin "buzz" have a life of its own and seemingly framing the whole campaign. To that end, that old kook MCCain surely made a shrewd move: He's successfully changed the subject from his own pathetic personna and policies, to an American Idol type vapid "horse race", and the mouth breathers ( who, despite the solemnity of the act, are allowed to vote ) are lapping it up.

I'm registered GOP, but I'm finally going to go IND. I'm tired of voting for the "lesser of 2 evils", my "tipping point" having been finally reached. Both Dem and GOP candidates get a solid F-grade on issues important to me, and though it's going to be an excersize in futility, I feel great voting on principle...and I am heartened to see that that this time around, my view is very common. I'm told ( eh...warned of great calamities ) by some friends/family who are die-had GOP zealots, that I'll be effectively voting Obama in. Maybe so, but I'll bet the "none of the above" candidate ( most likely Barr ) will receive an historically high 3rd party turnout. In any case, and it surprises me to think ( let alone say ) that I'm more comfortable with an Obama administration than a McCain one, such is my total disgust with "McSame"...the worst possible ( along with Giuliani ) choice IMO. They are worried about "the future of the Republican party": If this is what it's become; I couldn't give a sh*t less if it deep sixes.

For the record, so as to establish my ideological bent: I would have preferred Duncan Hunter as my choice, or Pat Buchanan ( minus the religious part ) but that would be too much to ask. To run in any major party today, no Non-Plutocrats need apply. Such is the disgust of this conservative populist. ( and NO, it's not an oxymoron )

Peasants with pitchforks indeed.

I'm a Dem but thinking of changing to independant as well.

According to the bi-partison poll called the battleground poll, of the people polled, 10% identified themselves as extreme liberal; 20% extreme conservative; 40% moderate liberal and 30% moderate consevative. Then you have independants, swing voters and libertarians who can push the vote one way or the other too.

So, you can see why McCain went from the most liberal, least desired republican candidate to one who is now appealing to the far right. He has to draw in the far right to have a chance of winning and that's why he chose Palin.

Although, the problem is, she is a pentacostal, like Michael Jackson, and believe only a fixed number of souls will make it into heaven. Not exactly main stream Christianity.

According to news reports, members of her church get "happy" and speak in tongues. Some pentecostals even choose to pray over their kids rather than seek medical intervention.

George Will said it best: " She's a bubble just like the .com bubble and the housing bubble she will burst". Question is: will it burst before the election?

If the Bush administration is so corrupt and dishonest....why isn't the Big 'O' showing a 20 point lead? Could it be he has nothing to offer???

Now that the market was up today(following 3 days of Bush induced Destruction),2 of the -cooler- resident GOP -Tub Thumpers- have Returned ! Welcome back. Your Silence(while you were GONE) was Deafening *****

You should do some research......I believe many Dems induced this meltdown with poor decisions from the Banking committee members some time ago.Don't forget Carter started the program,Clinton really pushed and yes....'W' did somewhat too.

See how quick congress was to bailout Freddie and Fannie? If they failed there would have been 'INVESTIGATIONS"......that would have been very embarrassing for your party and the Big 'O'.

But dell...you are forgetting everything our buddy Phil Gramm...John McSame's financial guru...at the turn of the century to help put greedy folks to get a bunch of "subprime" mortgages with teaser ARM rates to bundle and sell as an "investment". I mean...if Carter introduced it...that would have been 30 years ago. You mean po folk have been paying their mortgages until the year they'd have it paid off...then going into foreclosure?

Sorry dude...if these programs were the cause of the meltdown, we should have seen a massive foreclosure rate long before 30 years.

I'm very grateful to be participating this morning in a ceremony that has farreaching impact on the future of our Nation, on individual communities which have been hard-pressed and have benefited from the UDAG and the community block grants. 😱

Secondly, under this bill, we can now respond rapidly to a decline in the housing industry. This bill gives us the powers to avoid a serious housing downturn. We are monitoring conditions very carefully in case this authority needs to be used. 😱

The basis for low income lending:

Fifth, the Congress has adopted my recommendation that the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act be extended and strengthened. This is a clear reaffirmation of our determination to stem redlining and to secure the lifeline of credit for all neighborhoods.

Foundation is laid:

This bill is an important achievement, but we also must look candidly at our Nation's remaining housing requirements. High home prices and interest rates have Made it increasingly hard for American families to buy homes, and we also nee:l to produce more rental housing. I'm committed to American home ownership. This bill increases the FHA mortgage limits from $67 1/2 thousand to $90 thousand allowing many more American families to buy their own homes.

Info

Carter administration policies drove interest rates out of this world and some 10-15 years later along came another liberal fairy tale give away program that as all liberal programs end up,had unintended consequences that have brought this country to the brink.

Pressure to give away monies to low income applicants came down from the Fannie Mae/Freddie entities.Banks were leveraged by these and Clinton and later,Bush.Low interest and look the other way became the rule of the day...hey WTF everybody was making money.

And here we are today.....

BTW.....do some looking and you'll find Obama was right in the middle of this mess.Several of his advisers were deep rooted in the GSE's.So who's going to run Obama's White House?

A review of Federal Election Commission records back to 1989 reveals Obama in his three complete years in the Senate is the second largest recipient of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae campaign contributions, behind only Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., the powerful chairman of the Senate banking committee. Dodd was first elected to the Senate in 1980.

In the aftermath of the U.S. government takeover, attention has focused on three Democrats with close ties to Obama who served as Fannie Mae executives: Franklin Raines, former Clinton administration budget director; James Johnson, former aide to Democratic Vice President Walter Mondale; and Jamie Gorelick, former Clinton administration deputy attorney general.

Duh

So tell me...who's running the candidate of change's White House

Quick question what did WIN mean in 1976? It's what Carter inherited.
