You will pardon my skepticism if I do not want my life to be dependant on charity. What happens in isolated incidents is not necessarily indicative of what will happen on a grand scale.
A quarter of a million kids is isolated? OK Then this little item fit you well I think
The Government is my Shepherd. I need not work.
It allows me to lie down on good jobs.
It leadeth me beside still factories.
It destroyeth my initiative. It leadeth me in the path of the parasite for politics sake.
Yea! Though I walk through the valley of laziness and deficit spending, I will fear no evil; For the government is with me. its doles and its vote getters they comfort me.
It prepareth an economic utopia for me by appropriating the earnings of my grandchildren.
It filleth my head with bologna; my inefficiency runneth over.
Surely the government will care for me all the days of my life.
and I shall dwell in a fool's paradise forever.
Lets see. Assuming a US population of Bout 250 lion The would be about. 001% about 80.years ago. Yep. Isolated incident.
Do you have anything from the century we are living in now?
You know I'm beginning to think dapoes is right. Any clue as to why the Orphan Trains stopped in 1929? When you do then I'll consider your opinion. Note the number below from the US Census.
July 1, 1929 121,767,000
Of course since it doesn't fit your view of Govermnent control of our daily lives you seek to discredit. Truth is the charities worked. Were there issues and abuses? YES there were just like the woman in South Jersey who murdered her 4 foster children while collecting the Government subsidy.
Im sure once you research it you will find other wise.
It was a single program to find homes for 200000 kids. Notable but isolated and over 80 years ago. Charities will not make up the short fall were government aid program to vanish. I do not believe we live in that world any more. Most people do not even know their neighbors any more.
Dont know and dont care. I have not researched it. Its an isolated incident from 80 years ago. Times were a bit different back then. People did not lock their doors. They knew their neighbors and in all likely hood knew moat of the people in their town. We dont live in Mayberry any more Oppi.
If you eliminate BY LAW group policies and eliminate employer paid healthcare then you empower every US Citizen to act in their own best interest when choosing insurance. I'm not sure why that frightens everyone.
It's rather simple why people would be afarid of that. They would pay a lot more for health insurance. Especailly if they work for a company like UPS which covers almost all of the premiums. I doubt very seriously that someone could get a better deal than that.
Well you'd obviously or maybe not so obviously have to convert the dollar mount of the current premium into wages for exactly the reason you state.
There's a second part to this though and here's where it get's tricky. In order for the free market to work and drive down prices you'd have to get rid of Medi-Care and Medicaid entirely so that there was no government interference of any kind. Now you can't really do that to those already on the program or those within ten years as their who retirement plan is based on certain assumptions. You'd have to phase them out over time which would slow the rate of decline in prices to the consumer.
Healthcare IS a big deal! Not for the obvious reason that we want a healthy population. If we can get things straightened out and lower our overall Health Care costs by about 20% we will hold a significant cost advantage over other nations who have socialized systems whose costs are increasing. This could very easily tip the scale to the point where we pick up some manufacturing jobs as a result. There are several well documented cases where Companies manufacture in Canada due to a significant difference in cost of health Insurance. Canada currently has an advantage of about 12% depending on currency fluctuations.
