Meet Travis Christ - WWTD

Well it was an interesting snippet of his presentation.

The first thing that I noticed was that based on his speech pattern and use of the language Travis Christ has never made a Sales Call one day in his life. His bio bears that out. See below:

TRAVIS CHRIST
Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Travis Christ is responsible for overseeing the airline's advertising, business development, frequent flyer and sales divisions. Previously he was the vice president of marketing at America West Airlines.
Travis holds an MBA from The American Graduate School of International Management and a bachelor's degree in economics and public policy from George Washington University. Prior to joining America West, Travis held the position of manager, government affairs, and senior analyst, route planning and scheduling with Houston-based Continental Airlines.

NOTE: that nowhere does it show he put his feet on the street and had to earn a living selling with part or all of his money being earned via commission.

Compare that to his former counterpart Barry Biffle, now Chief Marketing Officer at Spirit.

Barry L. Biffle
joined Spirit Airlines in February 2005 as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Biffle has an extensive background in all areas of marketing and prior to joining Spirit he served as Managing Director of Marketing at US Airways where he was responsible for advertising, direct marketing, the frequent flyer program and product. Additionally, Biffle held other senior positions at US Airways in planning, marketing and sales. Prior to US Airways, Biffle held several management positions at American Eagle Airlines. Biffle holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alabama.

NOTE: That the positions at Am Eagle were field sales positions and management of field Sales. Sales at US I believe also reported to Barry as well.
Now compare and contrast the way in which the 2 airlines market themselves and tell me who is closer to the customer??? Additionally BB was accessable and interested to hear what his customers thought and didn't speak like an MBA. He spoke like a man who actually made a few freaking Sales calls.

How can you fully appreciate a fireplace if you never cut and stacked cord wood?
Very well said! Travis comes off as a little Shmarmmy (sp). I love how he says something about putting your customers needs first!

For sure, he ISN'T a public speaker. I could do this better.
Probably most of you also.

I thought he looked nervous.

For fun, count the number of ring touches he does in his 4 minutes of video.

He looked like and had the mannerisms of a car salesman.

Thankfully he is not in charge of Safety!

This place is doomed with idiots like this Travis Christ guy. Always thought USair manangement was bad, A West is worse!!!!! Everyone should E-mail Parker and can this clown.

Travis is not a clown...i can assure you that. He's put a lot of stuff in motion around here and is definitley an asset to the company. He also treats all his employees with dignity and respect and is very well-liked around HQ so I doubt he will be going anywhere anytime soon. Yes, maybe he's not the best public speaker in the world but he does care about the company and consumers a whole lot. He's got a lot on his plate so I just ask before you start bashing him just give the guy a little bit of a chance. Maybe I'm partial because he did start out throwing bags like I did, and now he's a VP, but I can tell you starting out throwing bags you understand a whole lot more about the industry than just coming out of college into a position. They fail to mention that in any of the bios, but I think they should.

Signed Travis Christ

Let's wait and see. What he did in my mind is a "Hanging Offense" but sometimes events like this have a way of becoming a learning experience that leads to more positives than negatives.

Smart guys in business make a mistake like this once, they learn from it and become better business people. Often in life it's what you learn AFTER you know it all that makes the difference.

IMO this is such a time for Travis Christ.
I have been waiting for over 25 years this company makes one mistake after the other, maybe it will end one day!!!

He does have what in poker are called "tells" or habits when he presents. Everyone does. I have a couple myself. If you ever have made presentations try watching a video of yourself and observe all of your own "tells". It's kinda painful but it's one way to become a better presenter.

Well, I don't have sound and he doesn't look bad... a little boring, but not bad. I guess that going to the presentation with sound cancelling head phones wouldn't be very productive though......
