It seems that the ramp in PHL is on meltdown again , the missed bag claims are astronomical. It seems that no one wants to work the P.M. shifts on the weekend. The delays are ridiculous and I hear that CLT is on the sane path.Where is our new superboss Ross Bonnano when we need him ?

==================================================

Remember one of the comments from the culture survey: "All of the administrative functions go dark nights, weekends and holidays."

Same as it ever was....

Heard that the director of Express Operations in PHL was shown the door this past week. I think it had something to do with never being at work, especially when leadership was needed during heavy periods.

Surprising? Nope. Just another example of what happens when you abuse your power and get caught. US needs more policing of that kind with the management. I'll give upper management credit......this time.

Clt is on the same path. If some one could just see all the int'l bags that do not make it especially Sat. night.

It's like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic.

Any word on a new Director of Express Operations in PHL? Seems like it is a pretty big operation that could use replacement leadership quickly.

I've been rooting for you guys for the past 3 years, but at some point doesn't it seem like the movie, Groundhog Day, to you? I keep reading that someone has been charged with solving the PHL problem and how good he is and how he has the right background to get the job done. Then within 6 months I start seeing posts about the latest meltdown in PHL and someone has been replaced with a person who has the right background to get the job done.

"Wow, it's like deja vu all over again."

P.S. Is there a solution to the PHL problem?

I'll agree with you, Jim. I can honestly say that the person in charge of Express operations in PHL was not sent there to solve any problems. The person in question was the former director of Customer Service for PSA. Given the choice between exiting the company or moving to PHL to work for Piedmont, the person took the latter choice.

IMO, the person was a waste of space and finally got caught abusing their power. Screwing your management team and your employees by being absent on a regular basis is good enough for me as a reason to be shown the door.

PHL needs someone versatile enough to solve the technical problems at the airport and have the liason skills to deal with the employees and the other tenants at the facility. Will US find this person? Perhaps, but such a person is worth megabucks and is probably employed elsewhere at the moment. Luring him or her to US would be a hefty proposition.

Am I correct in my understanding then........... the guy was let go for substandard performance, and they had no idea of who could provide continuing leadership?

All I can tell you is that, according to the information that was disseminated at our station, the individual was caught in a lie about his/her whereabouts during working hours by a superior.

As far as continuing leadership, I can't speak to that because I don't know some of the Express management team in PHL. Those I do know are relatively capable.

Obviously, you need more workers as usual at U.

With the 3 concessional pay cuts, you can't get folks to work over these kinds of days. Pay them more, or hire. U reduced loyal workers to part-time and furloughed folks, and then decided to rehire part-timers at low wages. Well, you son't get that kind of committment from young college kid workers who need to work other jobs to accomodate receiving low wages at U. You can't have it both ways by hiring ONLY partime workers because U is too cheap to pay medical and benefits for full time workers.

These folks are just forced to work additional jobs for higher pay on weekends at nights for other employers working and not opting to work weekends and off shifts for U at those wages and not benefits for part-time workers other than FULL cost of medical for family coverage.

PAY THE PEOPLE A DECENT WAGE AND THEY WILL WORK THOSE SHIFTS.

For all you Managers and VPs who think its such an entry level position and doesn't deserve a decent wage, looks like you will continue to have major problems in that area until you come torespect what ramp agents due and their value to the airline.
