High-flying cat comes in for Manchester landing
By PAT GROSSMITH

For 19 days, a black and white cat named “Billyâ€￾ jet-setted across the nation tucked away unknown in the cargo area of a US Airways jet.

Yesterday “Billyâ€￾ was rescued by airline employees at Manchester Airport. The night cleaning crew left a note for the morning staff that they had heard a “meowâ€￾ coming from the cargo area of the aircraft.

US Airways Flight 73 to San Francisco, with a stopover in Pittsburgh, was scheduled to leave Manchester yesterday at 6:30 a.m. It was delayed 3 hours and 15 minutes, however, while employees worked to get “Billyâ€￾ out of an extremely small space in the forward part of the cargo hold.

David Castelveter, airline spokesman in Arlington, Va., said the Airbus A-321 jet was full with 169 passengers but that they were understanding.

happy cat finds life with jet set....deTAILS at 11.
billy the stowaway cat found high flying fun jet setting with us airways recently.the cat was fine and a little hungry.US AIRWAYS personell found the cat in excellent condition however it seems the cat has gone over the edge somewhat, with some 19 days of take offs and landings.Mr.Billy declined an interview wishing to get back with family and friends.

It was an experiment to see if they could get stray cats to load baggage. That way, it would only cost them some cat food and catnip toys. Then they figured that if they went back to people they could cut out the catnip toys to save money...

Mr. Billy is doing fine thanks to the folks in MHT. He will be escorted to PHL for his MUC flight once he is medically released next week. Kinda sounds like he is coming back from a long term medical does'nt it ?

I think it is an experiement by BBB - if a cat can survive in there for 19 days, maybe he will make that the cockroach cabin!

More importantly, US Airways took the time to look! Sometimes they do seem to "Get it"

A cleaning crew heard "meows" Thursday night, and Friday, while crews tried to get to the cat, passengers trying to get to Pittsburgh and San Francisco on Flight 73 were delayed more than three hours.
Crews at Manchester Airport rescued a cat named Billy from the cargo hold of a US Airways jet on Friday, 19 days after he escaped his cage on a flight from Phoenix to Philadelphia. The airline says Billy crisscrossed the country ever since.

I hope those were IAM members in Manchester!
Great job utility!

The most shocking thing about this article is that the flight was booked to capacity, 169 PAX on MHT-PIT. I wonder how many of those 26 up front paid the full F fare!

If MHT is such a hotbed (it does get 757 & A321), maybe US should add some additional point to point service there.

Poor kitty!!! He probably aged 20 yrs.

Better thread would be the claims for the people who may have complained of cat urine on their bags. I would have loved to hear the conversation with the owner when they found an empty kennel.

"Uh sorry miss. Your cat seems to be missing, but if found we'll forward him to you ASAP. Do you want a pine box or mahogany?"

All joking aside, I give the people who found him two thumbs up for taking the time to search until found. Good job guys.

POOR POOR POOR KITTY!!!!! I hope they gave him a gourmet meal.
