I agree. Well said. Are you on crack? He and Wolff were responsible for our pre- and post- 9/11 problems. They spent the better part of two years on an ill-fated merger attempt, without a PLAN B, when the Dept. of Justice told them in the very beginning that the merger wasn't going to get approved. Don't y'all remember what it was really like, the blocked-off executive suite; the dynamic duo rarely would fly on-line, opting for private jets instead. The ran the airline into the ground, and then immediately before Ch. 11, verse 1, took their millions and bailed, leaving the mess to Siegel. I will agree that we had a great product under them, but we also had an untenebale debt load and a powder keg of troubles waiting to explode, which they did on September 11, 2001.
And do you not remember all the bitching and griping on the line when Wolff and Gangwal were at the helm? It's easy to look back break out into a chorus of "Those Were the Days" and yes, they were better than now, but all was far from rosey.
There's a reason US was a well-run airline, the darling of Wall Street, and had such a good product: managers who didn't cut the mustard were shown the door, and with great regularity.
Unlike Tempe, which has such a laissez-faire attitude and seems to promote the incompetents versus the talented. They remind me of Miss Prissy in Gone With The Wind singing "Tote the Weary Load" -- lazily taking her time returning from her mission to fetch Dr. Meade as Atlanta burned and Miss Mellie was havin' her baby.

I hope it happens for no other reason than to have the much discussed PIT-AMS flight get canceled. I can hear the cries and complaints from those vocal PIT supporters already.
I always thought NW made sense for us, more so than Delta really. And, as nasty as their management is, at least they have been running a real international airline and might know how to do it......IMHO.
The reason Delta makes more sense is because merging in this environment is about the ability to control yield. That comes through consolidation and then shrinking the operation. Many said Delta did not make sense because there was too much overlap. Well that is exactly why DP and the village idiots in Tempe wanted it! It effectively eliminates your competition...
You call them "village idiots"...but your very last statement says alot........"eliminate your competition"...maybe they really weren't the village idiots trying to eliminate their competition...think about it!
