Hello folks

Just wanted to let you know those F/A that are waiting for classes to start again well Feb. 7 is a dure date. They are putting 12 people in this class. And the second class is going out on Feb. 14 also with 12 F/A. Just thought I let those who were looking for that info. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. Why on earth are they only holding classes of 12? That seems like such a waste.

Any word on classes in March and April? Will they be posting these on the Hub?

Well DCAflyer, the classes on Feb 7 and Feb 12 are going out with twelve each, and the person I talked to said that there was no more classes scheduled so I don't know when they give another one. since there was 3 emb-170 delivered or to be delivered by the end of this month thats where these two classes come in. If they do the same for the next emb-170 to be delivered which is in march, I would assume that they'll put one or two more classes.

Hope this was helpful, if you want any more details just PM me.

But that still doesn't make sense because staffing, from my understanding, is 20 F/As per A/C. So with three 170s coming this month (which probably won't be online until March) and the three coming in March (which could be factored into the April schedule) that would been a total of 120 F/As needed, not counting attrition.

I spoke to someone in the MAA division who told me that classes are going out with only two weeks notice to F/As, so I would count on lots of no-shows, since it takes time for people to get their ducks in a row and get to training.

Someone from MDA could give a better answer, but 20 F/A's per aircraft sounds awfully high. I would guess more like half that - 10 or so.

I would agree with you boeing, I think 20 per A/C is a little high. Maybe someone from MDA could shed some light.

Boy is that high. I based my assumption on the pilot staffing for mainline - 5 - 5.5 crews per plane before this latest agreement upped the hours per month - figuring 2 pilots per crew (for most of the flying) equaled F/A crews on the E-170. What you're talking about is mainline F/A staffing ratios (or higher) without the 3 or more F/A's per crew requirements of mainline.

Did that come about because of ramping up for airplanes that ended up not coming when we entered BK2 (I heard that the MDA pilot staffing was sufficient for something like 30 airplanes) or is that considered the minimum ratio?

How many active mainline pilots are there now?

Yeah Boeing, it is high. It takes 15 F/A's to staff the E170.
The classes ar Feb 7 and Feb 14. Those folks are going to DCA.
2 tentative classes are scheduled for March.

Up until now they have been going with the figure of 20-24 per a/c, to build in extra reserve staffing. Being that they are crews of four, there would ideally be the same amount of pilots as F/As, which would differ greatly from the mainline as all of those planes are staffed by at least three (mostly) but up to 14 F/As dependent on the aircraft types.

There are 22 170s, and apparently the pilots currently have enough staffing for three more while the F/As are only staffed for the 22 on the property now. That may be old info though, I'm sure Rico or someone would have the figures.

The division was very reserve-heavy when it began, with alot of F/As sitting around in traditional US Airways fashion but has moved to having more blocks with less time built in. The lighter blocks work for everyone because it creates more blockholders, who in turn pick up and drop trips that would normally be rationed out to reserves with no choice. 170 F/As can fly as much as they please as long as they stay legal- some folks do 120 hours or more. On the other side of things, people who don't want to fly can drop as much as they like and go below the guarantee. They can also pick up trips from any base, not just thier own, and even reserves can pick up open time and in theory build themselves blocks. I would guess that the flexibility the F/As have, and the lack of limitations on how much they can fly makes them pretty efficent and in need of less reserves. So perhaps that is why they are not recalling as many for the three new aircraft, if that makes sense.

While we're on the topic, are they moving the 170s back to B/C in PHL next month or no? They are reducing to 19 flights and 1 RON in PHL, and the rolled operation starts in Feb. Most of the flying is going to DCA where they are ramping up with forty something flights a day. Also heard that aside from the ones already painted in Brazil, any new deliveries, 170 or 190 will wear the standard US Airways titles instead of the ridiculous fictional-Express-carrier-that-doesn't-exist getup they have now... anyone else heard that?

LightYears,

Have not heard about the express coming off..but, we do have the 3 new planes so maybe someone who has seen them can tell us if the express is off the side. I did speak to a gate agent in philly who is mainline but working MAA and they said that they are all ( mainline agents at express terminal) are going back to B/C gates in 2 weeks. They did not know that the MAA flights may be going over there too in 2 weeks. But, they did say that they thought something was going on for them to be going back there. I have been told by MANY pilots that come Feb. there will be a big change. They were not sure what it was going to be..but, the company obviously has something instore.
